Spied: Development Continues Of Chevrolet Colorado And GMC Canyon Replacements

Things appear to be shaping up nicely for the all-new GMI700 platform pickup trucks that will replace the milquetoast midsize trucks that we’ve known as the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon. While these new trucks could very well retain the same names as the outgoing trucks, we have reason to believe that the new trucks will carry names of their own.
These pickups, which will be nearly the size of all-new 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 1500, are said to be able to do “95 percent of the work” that a full-size can do, but will emphasize fuel economy while appealing to tradesmen who don’t need such a large truck as well as younger buyers that live an active outdoors lifestyle.

it’s been a while since there were new rumors/pics on these trucks – can’t wait to see the final look and powertrains. The GMC looks like the grill came right off of the Acadia, and the Chev looks like the new Z71 grill. However, the authors comments about the small round lights apparently never saw a GM prototype on the road before, particularly the Volt pre-production model’s lights. I think it’s a safe bet that the headlights will look a lot like the ones on their big brothers.
I don’t think these new trucks will be close in size to the new full sizers.
Compare the dimensions of the new global Colorado to the current U.S. Colorado. The new global version is only about 1 to 1.5 inches bigger in just a few dimensions than the current U.S. version. There isn’t a reason to think the new one will be significantly larger than the current one.
I thought it was said that the 2015 domestic trucks are on an enlarged global platform.
Things I want, and it’s pretty simple:diesel with 200-230hp, 350+lb-ft and be able to combine with ZR2 package on crew-cab.
I can already tell it will look great based on the front look very reminiscent to their big brothers
It’s the Maloo ute
Keep the gear shifter in the steering wheel column. Give us an inexpensive diesel option. Make a snow plow preparation kit available for the truck.
Would love the idea of a snow plow prep package for this truck. Small trucks are good for plowing out the small areas that are too tight for the big rigs. But the small trucks need to be beefed up for the task.
Not saying I want it too but could this be the ground work to replace the normal 1/2 ton truck in the future?
The CAFE is kinder to the heavier trucks MPG wise and GM could offer a truck like this as a 1/2 ton but also offer a light 3/4 ton to be the ever increasing MPG ratings that will be laid on the half ton.
Trucks are going to have to work the gray areas of the rules to remain where they need to be. Keep in mind Ford could bring the Ranger in for the same thing at any time deemed necessary.
I do approve of the new noses over the global trucks. I just hope they can alture the look of the crew cab wheel base to look better than the global unit. The bed is so small and the rear wheels are so close to the cab it just has an odd look. The Extended Cabs look ok though.
