Yesterday we broke news of General Motors trademarking the “Elmiraj” name, and at the time we had little information on what it all meant. Not 24 hours later, and we have been tipped by sources asserting that it’s the name designated for an upcoming Cadillac concept vehicle — which was one of our predictions.
As it turns out, the Cadillac Elmiraj concept is going to be a precursor of an upcoming production car. But it won’t be the full-size flagship LTS sedan. Instead, according to sources, the Elmiraj will be an early look at the upcoming Cadillac ATS Coupe. Expect the two-door Cadillac to surface during the incoming auto show season, possibly Los Angeles in November.

There’s already spy shots of the ATS Coupe, which means the design is probably pretty solid and official at this point. Why would they do a concept of it with such a different name. When the CTS Coupe Concept was revealed, that’s exactly what it was called. Why the crazy name for this?

Because it’s just a concept model. They can name the concept whatever they like. If it goes into production, a proper name from the Cadillac nomenclature would be used.
I know people hate the letters and numbers but pronounceable in Knoxville on a Saturday night is also recommended.
We may be lucky and this is only a show car name only.
I don’t really see this name as one that will ring bells like Eldorado, Coupe de Ville, or the other names that Cadillac has used over the years. I personally think that Cadillac should be careful with its names. Too many alphas could lead to problems. Just look at Lincoln. I’ll be damned if I can figure out which is which. That naming system is just a disaster. So far Cadillac is doing well…but they should still tread lightly…
Not only is it stupid for Lincoln, but also for Infinity- no character at all. They abandoned names like Town Car and Continental. Come to think of it, Acura f—d up too when they dropped “Legend” and “Integra”- genius move on that.
If this came out would be really funny to hear how diff ppl say it across the country. Especially in the south
Sounds a bit Arabic to me, maybe that’s where it’s going but I don’t really think so. Just thought I’d be sarcastic and put it out there.
You are CORRECT, it’s sounds like it’s from Dubai or some sand-storm country. I don’t like it. Maybe Cadillac has lost all their talent and they can’t even choose the right name now. They should just call it BKC. Cadillac can only use American or French/European names- why would they want to do anything else??? They should just resurrect cool names from their past: La Espada, LeMans (it was a Cadillac first), Calais. Or something like Monaco, San Tropez or Capri ( I know its history, please no emails, if you could afford to live in Capri you would think it a mighty cool name). All those names have meaning, not some made up Arab word. Come to think of it, “Talisman” does sound a little like “Taliban, ” I’d steer clear of that one.
Comments like that from people like you only make strong arguments for Cadillac’s nomenclature.
I’m interested! An ATS coupe is sweet to my ears! I could care less about the strange name. Cadillac needs more coupes/convertibles to help expand their product portfolio.
Well, it is a name, not some jibberish letters for once….bring back names, please
