Cadillac To Showcase New Concept At Pebble Beach In August?

A new report from The Detroit Bureau suggests that Cadillac will show off a new concept car next month during the 2013 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, which could be another take at a halo vehicle. The report comes just after news that General Motors scrapped plans for an über-high-end luxury sedan, which we’ve learned to be internally code-named “O1LL.”

While the Omega-based O1LL, which was expected to call the Bentley Continental Flying Spur a competitor, is now stillborn, there were several other designs that were studied, one of which could pick up steam internally, and emerge as the next candidate for the program. Perhaps what we will see at Pebble Beach will be a concept of that vehicle. Or perhaps it will be a concept of O1SL, the much-talked about Mercedes S-Class and BMW 7 Series rival, which is expected to be called Cadillac LTS. Is this our “Glamour concept?” Stay tuned for more.

    1. What do you call the Converj, then? And the Camaro is the same story. Two cars that went from concept to production with very, very, little change.

The point of a concept is to showcase where the brand is headed in terms of design and/or technology. Do you think Mazda would ever build the Furai concept? No. Concepts, are CONCEPTS lol. A concept, by literal definition is ‘a plan, an idea, an abstract’. Actually, this is one of the top definitions:

      concept [ˈkɒnsɛpt]
      4. (Engineering / Automotive Engineering) (modifier) (of a product, esp a car) created as an exercise to demonstrate the technical skills and imagination of the designers, and not intended for mass production or sale

  5. I just hope it is more production than show car. Too often the show cars that do make production end up having some issues as they do not always translate well to real life.

I get tired of people complaining about the blind spots in the Camaro. I have no issue but many do complain. I did hate the SSR and how you had to open the door to adjust the seats and how other issues with it as a daily driver.

Same with the Kappa’s neat cars that attracted attention but suffered from the lack of attention to details due to lack of money.

I would like to see something that is 80% production and well sorted that would give us a good hint what to expect in a flag ship and the future. No pipe dreams and half sorted cars this time. This is the real game now and not just trying to attract interest to keep stock prices up.

GM has the money to do it right and they have had enough Sixteen and other show cars that were just not realistic to produce. It is time to show the cards you have to play and stop bluffing.

  6. I expect it to be like a Bentley Continental, BMW 650i car. A sporty, muscular luxury coupe. It’s the car this brand needs to continue to gain prestige, and it fits the teasers and renderings of the “Glamour” concept.
