All-New Chevrolet Spark To Launch By 2015

A South Korean labor union spokesman has confirmed to the media that an all-new Chevrolet Spark is confirmed to launch by the first half of 2015, which will retire the current model that has been sold in parts of the world as far back as 2009.

It may be that the U.S. market has only recently received the smallest Chevrolet currently available, but we feel the Spark’s aged quite well, and the all-electric version of the mini car has received no shortage of praise from those lucky enough to have driven it already. Regardless, be ready for a new Spark in two years, though whether or not America will receive it in that time is currently unknown.

  1. This is very exciting to me, I think the evolution of this product could really be exciting for GM both internationaly and domesticaly… Lets face it these cars are going to continue to grow in interest… I think especially for the GM consumer who may want a second or Third vehicle. I can see this vehicle being and becoming more if the cool commuter vehicle. I have said it before and will say it again these cars should have come in the original 3 flavors of the Beat, Groove and Trax concepts; they should have produced all three. If they were to creat some varied flavors for the next vehicle I think they would do well…

  2. USA is a dead market for this car, hopefully GM realizes this part. No way this little box can compete against Scion iq or Smart cars which incidentally, offer full electric versions as well. Both of these cars never really took off in USA, if GM decides to press on here, this will be just plain dumb. Keep it in the third world countries, if it is cheap enough, it may survive fighting it out against other micro econo boxes.

    1. Have you even seen the sales numbers of the iQ or ForTwo? Compared to the Spark, their numbers are quite sad. Also, nobody expects the Spark, or any car in this segment, to post the kind of sales numbers seen in the C and D segments. Regardless, the Spark is second only to the Fiat 500 in sales for this segment.

      1. Yes, last time I checked, Fiat was ahead of Spark by the number of Smart sales actually. This is pretty funny, I agree.

        1. Booo maybe your from a different dimension or planet but here on planet Earth Fiat does not make the Smart cars Daimler does, moron…

            2. Booo, yes I do own a GM vehicle and enjoy this site. I retired a GM vehicle just recently with 240,000 miles on it for a newer GM vehicle that I plan on owning for 10 to 12 years as well. We are GM fans here and enjoy discussing GMs products now and in the future. Being a critic is fine, make sure you have your facts straight and be prepard to prove your points…

    2. What are you talking about? The Spark beats both Scion iq and the Smart Fortwo by a large margin and barely trails the Fiat 500.

      From Autoblog last month

“For a company that profits heavily from fullsize trucks and SUVs, Chevrolet has a surprisingly big hit on its hands with its smallest offering, the Spark.

Through May, the Spark has sold a little more than 14,000 units putting it closer to the success of the Fiat 500 (17,562) rather than the low numbers from the Smart Fortwo (3,678) and Scion iQ (1,919). More importantly, its transaction price is the lowest in its segment (and presumably, the industry) with cars going for $14,563 on average, helping to bring new, younger customers to the Chevy brand.”

Opinions are like religion, just because you believe it doesn’t mean its real.

    3. Can you please stop posting ignorant comments .I used to love reading this sight but it seams as though you’re ruining this site for the real people that visit to actually post an interesting opinion or get a real conversation going.

    4. The Smart and the IQ (sold as Toyota IQ here in Europe) are two-seaters, while the Spark offers four seats in two rows. That makes the two mini-cars much shorter, so that a Smart can be parked vertically to the curb, in the gap left by two larger cars between themselves.

Not at all the same market segment, I say.

  3. C’mon booo show us some love, this hate-fest over three stories now. I’ve had the chance to check both the Sonic and Spark out. They’re pretty nice cars for the market segment. Too small for my tastes but nice cars nonetheless.

    1. They are unsafe in collision and during driving them, laws of physics and cheapness of GM say so. You may want to check out safety cage in Smart car and compare it with Spark and Sonic designs, may do you good. LOVE!!!

      1. Boo you are an absolute trip, everyone knows that Smart cars are complete garbage…

  4. That’s awesome. Does that also mean we’ll get a new Sonic some time after?
I’d like the Spark to at least look lower to the ground. It seems like it would tip over on a sharp corner, unlike a Mini or 500. I also don’t really like the interior of the Spark and Sonic, mainly the cluster, but that’s just me. It seems a lot of people like it.

  5. I love the interior. It’s plastic, yes, but cleverly thought out, unpretentious, surprisingly spacious in feel, and has enough storage spaces. I loved my old 1995 Geo Metro 5-spd hatchback. It was like driving a go-cart. The Spark is even shorter, has the same fun-factor, but handles better, has two more doors, and amazing engineering upgrades: i.e–10 airbags, stability and traction control, various digital monitoring features, and a sophisticated safety structure. boo is dead-wrong about it being unsafe.

Asthetics are subjective, of course. I think the Spark is not at all sexy, but it IS cute: boxy and clunky looking from the side, but front and back both look great to me. I’ve test-driven. Would love to have one. Just bought my wife a Sonic sedan last October, with the turbo engine and manual tranny. I wanted the Spark, but the Sonic made more sense for her lengthy highway commutes. My favorite feature, though, besides the awesome fuel economy, is the mpg digital monitoring and readout, which both the Sonic and Spark have. That definitely motivated us to drive more fuel-efficiently. In two more years, when we’re ready to replace my 2003 Cavalier, I’ll be seriously considering the Spark again, whether it’s the current generation model or the next.

  6. I just purchased a Chevy Spark LT 1 with a manual tranny. I love this little car! I bought it to be used as a tow vehicle behind my RV. When driving it handles well especially in city. On the open road tops out about 70mph…not much more get up and go after that ;). I am a “matured” size person and the roominess of the interior and quiet ride plus the airbag safety built into this vehicle and is flat towable is what sold me. And did I say it is darn cute?
For my purposes, it is perfect. Thanks Chevy

    1. a “a tow vehicle behind my RV” — that is a concept new to me. In the mean time I think I understood the basic idea, having seen in a TV programm about “Slab city” a big motorhome towing a passenger car behind.

Living in Europe, I have never seen something like that. I think it would be prohibited, and can’t imagine that it is a safe thing to do without very special modifications to the car, enabling the towing vehicle to control the brakes and the steering wheel of the towed car. How is that done in your case, and generally in other cases?
