Car & Driver recently had a go with the 2014 Corvette Stingray, and after thrashing it around GM’s Milford Proving Grounds, they took it out for a drive. They then found themselves in the city limits of now-bankrupt Detroit, in front of the old casino on Belle Isle, which is once again desolate after the Grand Prix, and Orionfest — the perfect place to do a burnout, one would wager.

Personally, I think Car and D brought a spoon to this gun fight… Tony, he brought a howitzer
See what I mean?
Sweeeet! Music to my ears, thank you.
NICE!!!!! To bad i could never justify such an awesome car.
I remember thinking burnouts and donuts were cool in high school, but today I can’t care less about them, is there something wrong with me? I still like Corvettes though 🙂
“C”, there is nothing wrong with you. It’s called growing up! The guys that still do this are the ones apt to roll up a sock to stick in their pants. I would never abuse the skins on my Corvette to make a fool of myself, and it’s good to know neither would you.
That’s pigeonholing a lot of people.
sounds cool, nice burnout, the price of tires would keep me from doing one, unless its a rental ha ha
Nice to see GM finally addressed the issue of Vettes not having any bark to go with thier bite!
As for whether or not you do burnouts; some people are just boring like that. If you have no desire to light em up, or kick it sideways from time to time, You’re probably in the camp that
considers “enjoying your Vette” involves a day sitting behind it in a folding lawn chair making sure no pesky kids touch the paint.
I’m 36 and do smoke shows almost when ever the local kids ask. Somebody has to make sure gasoline is injected in the veins of future motor heads. If you aren’t getting em to the track, taking them for rides, and getting them under the hood; why would you expect them to understand why cars are so fun.
I would be lying if I said I have never done a burnout, but not as an excessive smoke show. The demonstration you see in the video is what I would call excessive, and for practicle matters, heat is the worst condition you can subject a tire to. I like to air it out once in a while by running it up to maybe 100 to 120 mph on my favorite stretch of interstate on a nice day. It would be foolish to subject your tires to such heat punishment and trust they would stay together at 100 plus speeds. Or for that matter normal interstate speeds. Sometimes, with age, comes common sense……sometimes.
Now, this is what I call blowing smoke, LMAO. Yes, burn outs are always impressive on skinny tires and the fact that C7 uses base C6 tire widths. You can do burn outs on LS3 C6 all day long too. Come to think about it, you can do burn outs in a Civic as well. No amount of smoke can cover up the extra weight and mediocre performance of C7. Nice try though…
