Opel Insignia Country Tourer May Surface At 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show

Update: Opel has officially announced the Insignia Country Tourer.

Word is that Opel is eyeing a rival to the Audi A4 Allroad and Volkswagen Passat Alltrack called the Insignia Country Tourer. For some reason or another, we don’t think it will fit in with Buick.

This isn’t something entirely new, as we’ve first reported on such a vehicle last year.

Visually, the proposed Insignia Country Tourer will ride a little higher than the standard Insignia Tourer, and will feature plastic-clad side skirts, which will stand up to the test of flying gravel and debris far better than a clearcoat. On the inside, the Country Tourer will feature all of the new technology found in the restyled Insignia that was revealed recently.

Will the Insignia Country Tourer be part of Opel’s presentation at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September? If the rumors are true, it very well could be.

  1. Mainland Europe only or UK as a Vauxhall too? Wonder if it will have the tailgate feature found on Chevys where it can be stopped from scraping garage doors & muti storey car parks etc.

  2. don’t like the tailgate bottom edge being inline with the bumper, one small touch in a rearender will cause more damage to the tailgate inself,
most have a recessed gate with a few inches of bumper protruding outward

    1. Tailgate is specially constructed. Frame is from high-strength steel and two outer panels are from plastic. Outer plastic panels can be separately changed.

Specs. from manufacturer: The tail lights have been intentionally mounted quite high up on the tailgate, protecting them in the event of a minor collision. The plastic cover between the lights and the bumper can absorb small knocks without a problem and is not expensive to replace in the event of a more serious accident.

  3. GM can import small numbers of the Insignia Country Tourer in the US. It won´t be a bestseller, but a great addition to the Buick range.

  5. A really nice looking vehicle… inside and out.

I really like the designs of Opel family.

Don’t know why they are struggling in Europe as they are heat looking vehicles

  6. Rich S, Europe is a very confusing market with some countries wanting prestige & others budget, it is also extremely competitive (many firms struggling to make a profit). Yes the Vauxhall & Opel ranges are better than the competition & not just in looks but to drive, performance, build quality & desirability. It seems GM cannot do both with one brand & have decided to continue to compete with VW, Ford, Audi & BMW with Vauxhall & Opel in the prestige sector whilst introducing Chevy to compete with Peugoet, Citroën, Fiat & Renault in the budget basic no frills end of the market.

    1. Thanks Jon, but what is “amp”?

      Reply
      1. When you look at the “amp”, you should see an ampersand “&” in front of it and a semcolon “;” at its end. This is then the HTML-encoding of an ampersand. If you see that instead of the real thing (“&”), then some software instance between V8Jon and your browser has misunderstood this encoding.

Our friend “V8 Jon” prefers to type a single & (ampersand) instead of the real thing, the three letter english word “and”.

Just to confuse the Russians, you know?

  7. Sorry just a bit of lazyness on my part I will try to put “and” in future posts.
