We’re fond of the looks of the Opel Adam. Its stylish appearance inside and out strikes us as trendy, approachable, and practical. And apparently we’re not alone, as the little Opel was awarded the design prize for the best interior in a production car at the “Automotive Interiors EXPO 2013” trade show in Stuttgart. It managed to win over incredibly strong competition, featuring models such as the Alfa Romeo 4C, Jaguar F-Type, Renault Clio and the all-new Range Rover.
The EXPO AWARD is part of the trade show for concepts, materials, surfaces, fabrics and components in vehicle interior equipment. A jury consisting of respected motor journalists from around the world selects the winners in seven categories.
Given the Adam’s offering of nearly 82,000 different interior style combinations, it’s probably why the judges gave the car the nod.

I’m guessing GME’s aim now will be to brodan both Adam & Mokka ranges, the Mokka can now be had with the 1.4 in 2wd, hopefully more models will follow. Seeing many Mokka & Adam on the road maybe future Adam’s will include a base model, SRi, convertable & VXR before GME launches New Omega & Calibra at the end of 2013.
“New Omega & Calibra at the end of 2013.”
As I know there are no plans for a new Calibra or Omega especially not in this year…
What is GME?
GM Europe, but it is actually Adam Opel AG (Opel). GME is only a label for General Motors business in Europe.
Wish the article had listed some of the key specifics on what made it win the award.
Obviously the Adam has a high-end, a la carte interior. Add different paint and trim options on the exterior and you have the makings of what made the MINI Cooper successful. This is what I wish GM would offer its North American customers (for my tastes, in a vehicle just like the Adam hatch and/or a coupe/convertible).
This could be very profitable for GM. Might even spawn driving clubs (like those that exist for the MINI) that generate free advertising and interest in locales across the country. People like to show off their unique cars. I was a part of one such driving club in Houston. One of its beneficiaries was a local children’s hospital.
This is what I was hoping would happen when the Sonic Z-spec idea was first introduced, but then it morphed into a rather inflexible, bundled RS. So a MINI-buster the Sonic was not to be. (I had visions of Sonic driving clubs meeting at Sonic Drive-ins, a win-win for both businesses. Ironically that’s where our local MINI club meets.) Instead, the Sonic is just an inexpensive car for which there is no equivalent Buick.
The German @ a there are rumours of a large Vauxhall/Opel (possibly Cadillac based) with Omega name a possibility using FWD & 4WD 3.6V6, 2.8V6 & a 2.0 Diesel engines in a saloon body this apparently will arrive late in 2013 or early 2014 if there is any truth in the rumours.
The Adam should be brought to the U.S., possibly as a Buick. It will compete with the Chevy Sonic and Spark, but it will take away sales from the Fiat, Scion and Smart mini cars, so it is all good for GM! In the future, it could be the next BEV in GM’s line of EVs.
What’s a BEV ?
