Holden Special Vehicles Committed To Build Beyond 2017

Whether the next-generation Holden Commodore becomes a front-wheel-drive vehicle or not, Holden Special Vehicles has already committed to building fantastic performance machines for Australia based on that vehicle. Adding more diversity to its portfolio, HSV is looking to develop a tuned-up version of the next-generation Cruze, along with hotted-up variants of the future VG Series Commodore, which is expected launch around the 2016-2017 time frame.

And if it does arrive on a globalized FWD/AWD platform, HSV is going to have to make some changes internally, as its expertise with rear-wheel-drive cars is practically meaningless on a front-drive vehicle. Learning how to turn a front-wheel- or all-wheel-drive vehicle into a track-ready street car HSV is known for is going to be a challenge for the performance group — a challenge it accepts.

  1. no way the VG is going FWD we know that the next gen commodore is going to be on global achitecture, and we know holden is GM’s RWD experts when it comes to scalable platforms and tim lee has said that holden can “absolutely” use the alpha platform. alpha is global acrhitecture dont think holden didnt have any input on alpha during the engineering process i highly doubt that!

    1. When it moves to a new platform, I suspect Holden will replace the ‘V’ series of alpha codes. Probably replace it with the first letter of the new platform.

  3. ” as their expertise with rear-wheel-drive cars is practically meaningless.” – I guess you actually do mean “expertise with front-wheel-drive cars”
