Considering that the all-new 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 pickup trucks are the same height as the outgoing 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty models, chances are that the next-generation GM HD trucks are going to be even larger. And judging by the spy photos of the 2015 Silverado HD and 2015 Sierra HD trucks testing around Death Valley, our suspicions are confirmed.
The photos, found on PickupTrucks.com, features one of the trucks parked next to a fueling station, which helps us indicate just how massive these 2015 2500 and 3500 K2XX trucks will be. Look for them to lose the black covering this fall. If we’re lucky, they’ll be on the market before year’s end.

Look at the comments on pickuptrucks.com. They are not positive regarding the DEF tank on these new HD’s. I really hope they find a way around this DEF thing come production time, or at least find a better place for the tank. Since the 90’s GM HD’s have had a low-slung frame. I understand this is to facilitate the IFS setup, but is there not a better way? Great ride, poor ground clearance. Can’t we have the best of both? I know for a fact that after a season of winter roads that a Chevy IFS setup stands up better than a SFA Dodge. Can we finally shut these SFA Ford and Ram guys up once and for all?
Where is the def tank? The way around this def thing is more egr. The def thing is better than egr.
If it’s anything like the current one, the DEF tank is under the hood.
No question capable as a personal use/recreational truck. However, when it comes to commercial models GM’s line is weak. Hopefully this will be addressed in coming years………
Are you speaking in terms of variety, or capabilities? Because if it’s the latter, one only needs to look at real-world data to see how much better the Duramax trucks are compared to the Cummins and Powerstroke models in performance.
Is the DEF tank under the hood on the current trucks? I thought it was attached to the passenger side of the frame. I could be mistaken. Anyways, the Duramax drivetrain isn’t where GM is lacking in terms of commercial use. It’s the chassis. I know I’m going back to the low frame/IFS thing, but in my opinion, that’s where they’re losing out. I’d like to see it change.
You guys are right. The DEF tank is FILLED from under the hood, on the passenger side.
Capabilities, from a commercial/vocational use standpoint. Both Ford and Ram offer chassis-cab models up to 19,500#’s GVW, while the most that GM offers is 13,500#’s. Ford and Ram also offer longer wheelbases than GM does. Even if GM does not return to offering a full line of medium duty commercial trucks (and I know you have reported that they eventually will), GM needs to at least offer 4500/5500 versions of the new HD’s soon to compete with similar trucks from Ford and Ram. They are really loosing out on a lot of business now.
their is a video of they cab an chassis truck tooling around Detroit on the web right now they look huge compared to the doge an ford I see-on the road out there now. what I would like to know is if you can get any of them with one of gm propane or natural gas engines they are making

In case anybody was wondering, I’ve banned “Calm Man,” whose name contradicts his comments. I’ll take being pointed out, but I will not take being insulted by a petty instigator.
Seriously, you should get under the trucks a while. The front axle on the dodge and ford would kill the Chevy. It puny in comparison. The A arms ride on the bumpstops all the time, and the torsion bar setup is very outdated. Everything on the truck is kinda old and small like the leafsprings, front drivetrain. You want a real heavy duty truck , you need a dodge. Spend an hour under the big 3 trucks and then come tell me what you think. The beefiness on the Dodge and Ford are way ahead of the Chevy. Also, who wants to fill up the def tank under the hood? Why did they put it outside the frame and hanging under the passenger door? Looks aweful. Dodge has coilovers, shocks seperated, front and rear, and some have airbag’s in the rear. Huge front axles, Def tank tucked up nice. Heck even the Dodge 2500 with the gas engine in it is built better than the Chevy. I was really disappointed in Chevy’s progress after spending some time viewing three trucks on a lift. The ford is pretty beefy as well, but their installation is sloppy and scattered with hoses, harnesses, coolant lines, etc just birdsnested together. The aluminum abrasion tape they use looks aweful after the first wash. And the ford steering members aren’t quite up to par with the dodge. I didn’t go into the review of these three trucks with Dodge on top, I have always been a Chevy guy. So I was disappointed in what I found, and I left there with a different attitude toward trucks.
The 2011-up GM HD’s front suspension is much improved, and stronger and better engineered than either Ford or Ram. It still is lacking in ground clearance in certain off road situations.
I work for a large utility fleet, and see the underside of these trucks daily.
The chevrolet engineers cannot see the def tanks location is costing chevrolet truck sales , it looks bad and very low.
