2014 Chevy Spark Gains CVT Transmission, EV Model: RPO Central

The smallest car in Chevy’s product portfolio is getting a few welcome changes for the 2014 model year, including substituting the 4-speed automatic gearbox and 4.14 final drive axle ratio in favor of a new Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) and a 3.75 ratio. The only other major change includes the addition of the pure-electric Spark EV to the lineup that’s capable of an 80-mile while accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in under 8 seconds. Rounding out the changes is the addition of automatic headlamps, which is a great feature that bigger and more expensive models (VW Jetta) don’t even offer.

  1. When searching the web, I notice mention of a CVT for the future Buick Verano and Chevrolet Cruze. Anybody know details or facts about this? Could GM be switching to CVT on all small cars like everyone else?

  3. For this car a CVT is certainly appropriate. I drove an Altima with a CVT while my Malibu was in the body shop and I was thrilled to get my V6 ‘bu back!

  4. I hope this doesn’t mean an expansion of ctvs’ in other lines. I don’t want, or like CTV technology. If I buy an automatic, I want it to last as long as the vehicle. Ctvs are a cheap way to manufacture an auto, for people who art to lazy to shift. On heavier vehicles, there is no way a CTV will hold up.

start my own blog soon but I’m having a hard time making a decision between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal. The reason I ask is because your design and style seems different then most blogs and I’m looking for something completely unique.
