2014 Chevy Express Van Lineup Sees The Most Minor Of Changes: RPO Central

For the 2014 model year, General Motors is giving its full-size Chevy Express vans a few small changes, which — for the most part — revolve around colors.

Gone are the Sandstone Metallic, Graystone Metallic, and Sheer Silver Metallic hues, and in their place are Silver Ice Metallic, Cyber Gray Metallic, and Brownstone Metallic. In addition, all of the Express models lose the outside heated, power-adjustable, black manual-folding mirrors with integrated turn signals, while only some models (Passenger, Cargo) lose the Power Package, which consists of the Convenience Package plus the aforementioned mirrors. Rounding out the changes is the newfound availability of a 160 amp alternator in the Express Cargo and Express Cutaway models.

The GM Authority Take

The current GMT601-based Express (and twin GMC Savana) vans have been around since 2003, and are legacy products with outdated powertrains, features, and attributes. Despite those qualities, the Express and Savana have been fairly successful in the market (and segment) to the point of becoming a cash cow for General Motors. Meanwhile, the competition (read: Ford, RAM) is introducing a series of very competitive global utility and passenger van offerings with the goal of changing the status quo and dominating the segment.

For its part, GM is rumored to be working on a family of full-size vans of its own to replace the current second-gen Express (and Savana), but we should note that the vehicles haven’t been spotted undergoing testing as of this writing — possibly suggesting that development on the vehicles is years from being complete.

  3. Slight de je Vue back to the 80’s with the excellent Bedford CF2 (itself based on a Chevy van) GM was replacing it then decided not to, in the end it never got replaced & instead had the smaller & less variants (a lot less) Bedford Midi a rebadged Isuzu van, itself based around Nissan Urvan (Chevy have a rebadged van now) this was only available in SWB, LWB, high roof & minibus variants & MPV (Albany, lasted 12 months). Hope lightning don’t strike twice, although these days firms seem to be pairing up for van manufacture perhaps there just isn’t the money in vans now.
