Believe it or not, the HSV engineering team almost dropped the entire project of shoehorning a supercharged LSA engine into a line of Holden VF Commodores to create the HSV Generation-F line of performance cars. It almost proved to be too difficult, as the Commodore body didn’t adapt well to the supercharged powertrain. At least at first.
“There was a lot of pressure on this thing,”said HSV managing director Phil Harding in a Drive report.”You walk away and think ‘will we solve it or won’t we?,’ so there was a period of that, then there was a period of ‘will we get enough cooling [to key components such as the engine]?’.”
Even though we live in America, and currently haven’t a prayer to ever experience the might of the HSV Gen-F family, we still believe that their existence makes the world a better place. Because horsepower.

How hard could it have actually been, given that these vehicles are basically just extending the model range of the ZL1. If a 17 year old kid can put an LS1 in his Miata, I think the HSV engineering team can handle putting a super charger on a 6.2L engine that they know will already fit
I think they were just trying to talk it up a bit and make the GTS sound even more awesome. Marketing…
I still wish we could have this here in America. All that power would be icing on the cake too.
I agree Paul, this thing looks nice in a bunch of ways.
how many cars built outside a manufacture are covered by a factory warranty, most places who add supercharging only cover their product for a limited time, too many things are overstreased down the drive line, and all issues must be covered, how many cars with worked engines have blown gearboxes, diffs, drive shafts, clutches, you can’t just add a supercharger and nothing else without breaking something.
The Gen – F was always going to happen but whether or not the GTS would have the LSA was what they were deciding. If it wasn’t possible, the GTS would have the LS3 like the rest of the range. In reality the Clubsport and Maloo have replaced their E-Series 3 R8 models and the Gen-F Clubsport R8 has become the equivelant to the E-Series 3 GTS because the Gen -F GTS is now a cut above the rest and the price has been increased.
Details of the Gen-F family:
Clubsport – LS3 – 317kw (425hp)
Maloo – LS3 – 317kw (425hp)
Clubsport R8 – LS3 – 325kw (436hp) – Optional: SV Enhanced pack – 340kw (456hp)
Maloo R8 – LS3 – 325kw (436hp) – Optional: SV Enhanced pack – 340kw (456hp)
Clubsport R8 Tourer – LS3 – 325kw (436hp) – Optional: SV Enhanced pack – 340kw (456hp)
Senator Signature – LS3 – 325kw (436hp) – Optional: SV Enhanced pack – 340kw (456hp)
GTS – LSA – 430kw (577hp)
Our Aussie friends build some really cool cars.
I met a go go dancer in Kings Cross, while on R&R in Australia many years ago. I asked her to marry me several times… Thank God she said no several times.
Their cars were not so cool then, but their women have always been beautiful and cool.
