The 2013 Cadillac ATS Is More Durable Than A Cake: Ad Break

We’ve showcased a video of the new Cadillac “Luxperiments” here before. And your responses have been mixed, if not leaning towards a negative slant. After all, why would Cadillac destroy nice things like an old piano, a vintage clock, or in this case a lovely cake, for the sake of marketing? The best we can figure out is that it’s a metaphor of sorts — that this is not the gaudy old-style comfort Cadillac that perhaps many of the older demographics have become accustomed to, and that its current products (the ATS in particular) are finely-tuned, cutting edge machines that pave the way to the future.

So to compare the durability of an ATS to that of something edible really shows how far engineering has come. We think. See the results in the video below.

  1. DAGNABIT!

That’s 3 of the 4 ‘lameperiment’, and in my opinion, the worst one.

Might as well pull the trigger and show us the dining room ad. We’ll be just as disappointed in the lack of ATS screen-time in that one as we were in the last 3 ads.

  2. OMG, not another one. WOW, this is lame, juvenile and stupid. This is the kind of ad you use to sell an item for less than $100 like a ruggedized phone or a garden hose. What an embarrassment for Cadillac and GM. I hope it doesn’t damage the brand too much.

  3. i want to like this commercial. i really do.

but 10 seconds in – can’t even show me a shot of the car driving.

80% of the commercial shows a wedding cake being destroyed – why would i ever want to associate a car with a destroyed wedding cake?

finally at the end those 3 seconds of shots of the car actually driving are lame and don’t transition well – i’m not even an editor and i know this – i would never lust after this car after those shots – now bmw…

argh such a novice ad – i wonder if the car is this bad

  10. Put a super model in a bikini and do donuts in a parking lot in an ATS, anything would be better then this garbage… This AD does not make me want to go buy a Cadillac… At least Kmart made me think that I should ship my pants…

  11. This ad is even too juvenile for 12 year old boys, who would probably think of it as lame. I have no idea who they are trying to reach with these commercials. I always thought that Cadillac stood for class. These are just tasteless and stupid.

    1. i had the same thought – only 12 yearold boys like to destroy things – is that the demographic cadillac is targeting?

  12. Pretty pathetic. The ATS should not be associated with an awkward, random, and uninteresting ad such as this. Most importantly, I don’t know why this would make anyone want to purchase an ATS. The focus should be on the driving experience. Step it up Caddy. We all know you can do better.

  13. Looks like Cadillac’s marketing department got hacked. That, or the standard of the world has been lowered dramatically.

  14. The real tragedy is that the vacuous morons who created this campaign will point to all the buzz they created as proof of their brilliance. We can only hope the muckety mucks at GM marketing don’t buy that argument. Then again they approved it in the first place.

  15. Am I not smart enough to get some secret subliminal message in this ad??? Are they trying to copy the Audi commercials?? or are they just plain ridiculous!!! Of all the ad agency’s out there Cadillac had to pick these clowns, not good.

  16. Maybe…the guys who drove the car in the first ads did this one???? Would follow with their attitude….I am surprised those two have not tried to take the car skiing down a mountain yet!
