The launch delay of the next-generation K2XX-based 2015Â Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe, and GMC Yukon full-sized SUV models are said to have been delayed from Q4 2013 to Q1 2014 to allow the engineering teams to focus on the launch of the all-new 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 1500 trucks, according to Automotive News.
It’s stressed that the push-back has nothing to do with a supplier issue, though we have heard through our own channels that the SUV models weren’t meeting the aerodynamic targets that were set, and that the delay is the result of troubleshooting the issue. Either way, the hold-up is relatively short when looking at the big picture.

Bummer, got to get these right though… When will we get a peak of the real thing… Hopefully Soon…
Darn it,
I’m on my 4th GMT900 SUV and I’ve been breathlessly waiting for the next gen. vehicles, and now it looks like they won’t be on dealer lots for at least another year. Meaning that if one wants to give them at least six months to shake out the new gen. kinks, it’ll be a year and a half before the Tahoe/Yukon is ready to be purchased and likely two years before the new Escalade could be in my driveway.
This might be what moves this up till now very loyal GM customer, over to the new RR Sport SC.
Not happy about it, but apparently launching a pickup and an SUV at the same time is too much for my tiny consumer brain to handle and would have confused me into panic induced hysteria. You know cause it’s totally the same customer base.
Ugh!
So will they be 2015 model years?
One only needs to look back to the 2013 Malibu launch disaster to know that, if they think they should delay this, they are right. But the fact of it does not bode well for GM, indicating there are more problems with 2014 Silverado ramp up than expected. They HAVE to get this right and I think they will.
Good point BOB…
i agree, make it good before it goes out the door. i have a question about the 4.5 liter diesel, will it go into production or is it dead?
Whether it be aerodynamic issues or whatever, they best get this one right. They can’t afford two botch jobs in a row. Let us all hope for the best for GM
What a cluster.
Yes get it right but presumably these are the high margin products that GM should want to sell.
How long do buyers have to live with the old Escalade/Suburban/Tahoe? Yes they are selling well now anyway, but I hate the idea of losing customers to Ford or Jeep and then having to win them back. Better to keep them extraordinarily satisfied to begin with.
It’s foolish to think that it makes sense to optimize timing if we’re talking about products >4 years old..
how long will i have to wait for the diesel ?
Ask Bob Lutz.
With all the drive train changes, far better to delay than to sell unproven technologies to customers.
Wonder if there will ever be a time when GM decide to sell these worldwide in RHD & LHD or if that time has been/gone.
Personally, I don’t think the Malibu was a disaster. I like the design of the new Malibu. But then, I’m not concerned about trunk space.
The auto magazines have not been kind to GM. Its why I stopped my subscription to all of them, but one. One of the biggest problems we have, in this country, is the lack of a voice for domestic, economic, nationalist like me.
Any time they excuse the foreign makes taste for CVTs… then our priorities are truly whacked.
So GM is basically saying that by the time the new generation SUVs roll, out it would have been 8 years (Q1 2006 – Q1 2014) from when the current generation came to the market. I would guess that with the massive sales and profits from these SUVs, GM would be more generous to run shorter generations, but they seemingly do the opposite. Since the first gen in the mid 90s, GM is running longer and longer generations for their full size SUV models.
I love GM and am a loyal customer, but it always seems as their models do more catching up than anything else.
I guess this delay is better than a Malibu type rushed debut at the end of the day.
I agree! I’ve had my 07 Tahoe since May 07, and with 180K miles on it, I’m getting very impatient waiting for the new model to come out. This is my 4th Tahoe in a row and I have enjoyed this one the most. But I am ready for an upgrade…..and if there were another full size SUV on the market that was better looking than what I have now, I would consider it……but to me, there is not. So, the wait continues.
I don’t mind waiting either. My 2010 Tahoe has just under 60k and I just serviced everything to get me through the wait. Im eager, but patient. 🙂 I’m really hoping their technology has improved greatly in this new edition. A USB port is hardly high-tech, and doesn’t currently push enough juice to charge an iPad.
I ordered a 2015 Suburban LTZ in the middle of March 2014. It is yet to be delivered going on two and a half months later. After I complained via several venues inside and outside of GM, the order magically was broadcast at the plant last week. Now I understand that there is a railcar shortage, and as of today (24 May) there is a dealer hold due to yet another recall. This will be my third Suburban and while I really like the vehicle I am losing patience with GM (I was a GM engineer for thirty-seven years) and the dealer. I seem to be getting too many excuses.
I ordered my 2015 Tahoe LT on April 1st and got it in 5 weeks. I have heard stories about others taking a lot longer, but I heard it was because of certain “ordered” options were on restriction. I was told that if I had ordered the two-speed transfer case for my LT, it would have been put on indefinate hold.
