Holden Malibu Awarded 5-Star Safety Rating In Australia

The all-new Holden (ahem, Chevrolet) Malibu has been awarded a maximum 5 star safety rating by the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) ahead of its Australia-market launch next month, joining best-possible safety ratings for the model in the U.S., Europe, and South Korea.

What really makes the Malibu safe is its strong structure, which is designed to absorb the energy created in a crash and help preserve the structural integrity of the occupant compartment, is made possible by the high-strength and ultra-high-strength steel, full-length frame rails, a reinforced safety cage, and impact-absorbing crush zones all contribute.

The Malibu’s standard safety features include six airbags, a rear view camera, rear parking sensors, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) incorporating Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), brake assist, electronic brake distribution, traction control, and the ISOFIX child seat anchorage system.

In addition, the Malibu conforms to global standards for protecting pedestrians against head injuries in the event of a crash by using energy-absorbing materials in the hood (or the bonnet, for our Australian readers). Other energy-absorbing techniques for protecting pedestrians in the event of a collision include the strategic use of air space between the hood and hard objects underneath (battery and engine) that could injure pedestrians.

PS: watch the Malibu undergo Euro NCAP crash testing.

  1. I don’t really care much about safety ratings in OZ but I do like the un cluttered nose of the Holden better. It has a little more up scale look with out the out dated center bar.

Al most has a ATS look on the nose with a different grill.

  2. I think it does look better as a Holden as well It was interesting in the crash video to see the roof flex and buckle but not go anywhere in the process.

  3. It probably won’t sell much. Consumers will opt for the cheaper, better and Aussie made Cruze or the slightly more expensive yet way way better VF Commodore. Both the Cruze and Commodore have excellent resale values too. Malibu is better than the Epica though. As with all Aussies, I would much rather see the return of the Torana.

    1. GM Executives to Holden: “Here is another brilliant Chevy, this will be great for Holden”

Holden to Automotive journalists, off the record: “We’re just using it to boost Cruze and Commodore sales”
