An Automotive News report states that General Motors called upon roughly 100 retired engineers to help oversee the launch of the all-new 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 pickup trucks. The retirees have been tasked with ensuring the quality on key components from GM’s Tier 1 suppliers on subsystems like the steering gears and chassis control.
The retirees are also reported to be coordinating the support of Tier 2 and Tier 3 suppliers to assist with the launch. It’s an unusual move, but it speaks about how important the launches of the all-new pickup trucks happen to be.
GM North America President Mark Reuss also noted that the same approach was used with the 2014 Impala, allowing the launch to be “almost flawless”.

Whatever it takes to get it right… No recals = Improved brand image…
There’s a lot at stake here, better to get it right to begin with.
Does anyone know an exact date these trucks are set to hit dealerships? I’ve been waiting and waiting and I can’t wait anymore haha.
ItsMillerTime Not sure where you are located in the country but retail production began on April 29th. Here in Michigan, we will start seeing the 14’s roll in around months end to early June. It’ll be a mutiple phase launch based on powertrain and cab/bed size. First phase will be 5.3 engines with the Crew cab short box bed as well as the new full size or 6′ 6″ bed (Available now on Crew Cab).
Good move.
@Matt Thanks. I’m up around Winnipeg (not by choice). I’ll be keeping an eye on the local showrooms in late May.
Totally disappointed in the new truck. It seems more like a refinement versus being all new. This is coming from a GMC truck fan too. I’m hoping the Dodge diesel is something to write home about.
