When it comes to upcoming movies, we’re far more excited about Rush than Fast and Furious 6. But when it comes to drawing a crowd of car enthusiasts, the latter seems to be winning. There’s even a huge Facebook event page for its midnight release, which we will be attending for kicks. But that’s not to say the upcoming installment to the Fast and Furious line isn’t going to be filled with amazing special effects, awesome action, and of course, very special and unique cars.
One such car — if it can be classified as a car — is the “Flip Car” used by the movie’s villains. Described as a “four wheeled spatula,” it’s purpose built to up-end the opposition, turning targeted cars into heaps of crunched metal and shattered glass. It was fabricated by builder Dennis McCarthy, and features a custom tube frame and cow catcher, four-wheel steering, and a V-drive transmission system, derived from a speedboat. Powering the low-slung machine is a 480-horsepower LS3 motor with some very impressive headers, while the suspension uses parts from a Chevrolet Suburban.
Despite its minimal appearance, the thing weighs 3,900 pounds. Imagine that thing coming at you.
