Dubai Police Fleet Adds Chevy Camaro SS To Its Fleet

The Dubai Police fleet now has a Chevy Camaro SS in its vehicle fleet — making it the first Camaro to be used by a police force in the Middle East. And while some police forces around the world try to disguise the purpose of a high-performance car in their fleet, the United Arab Emirates is surprisingly upfront about what the car will be used for:

“The Camaro is highly regarded around the world. It is the ideal car for Dubai Police as we look to upgrade our vehicles to meet the Emirate’s world renowned standards in safety and security,” said Dubai Deputy Police Chief Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina.

“We are delighted to be the first to respond to the Dubai Police’s request for assistance in adding high performance patrol cars to their fleet. We felt that the Camaro would be the right vehicle for their needs,” said Buti Saeed Al Ghandi, managing director of Al Ghandi Auto, which is General Motors’ dedicated Chevrolet dealer partner in Dubai.

“We are confident that the Camaro’s ability to respond rapidly, by virtue of its high performance V8 engine, coupled with its practical suitability for Dubai’s roads and ease of servicing, will make it an ideal patrol car for years to come,” he added.

The Camaro was handed over during a ceremony that had Buti Saeed Al Ghandi, managing director of Al Ghandi Auto (a Chevrolet dealer in the UAE) and John Stadwick, president and managing director of GM Middle East, in attendance. The two GM representatives handed the keys of the Camaro SS to Dubai Deputy Police Chief Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina.

Adding to the roaring success story that is the fifth-generation Camaro is the fact that the sports car has been named Best Muscle Car in four consecutive years from 2009 to 2012 by leading automotive publications in the Middle East.

As far as we can tell, this is the only Camaro in the Dubai vehicle fleet… but could you just imagine if any police fleet sported dozens of Camaros? Of course, some might not be delighted to see a 426 horsepower Camaro SS police car in their rearview, but we’d be more than happy to get pulled over by one of these.

On a sidenote, the Dubai police also has other high-performance vehicles in its fleet, including the Aston Martin One-77, Lamborghini Aventador, a Bentley Continental, Mercedes Benz AMG SLS, and Ferrari FF.
