Ad Break: Holden Colorado Truck Gets Serious

This new minute-long commercial for the Holden Colorado (known elsewhere as Chevy Colorado) asks the viewer to think about all kinds of dirty outdoorsy activities such as mountain biking, camping, pulling tractors out of lakes (go 3.5-ton towing!), and construction-related tasks. The ad then shows the Colorado in action, performing all of those tasks — and more:

  1. Nice truck, but the nose has got to go, it is too generic.

  3. Good looking truck. I’d seriously consider one as a second vehicle. How long do we have to wait, as we’re starting to see spy shots over here?

  4. I will buy one when it gets to the USA, but only if they still call it Colorado.

  5. Will the Colorado come in 2 wheel drive in US? What about ZQ8 suspension? Had a 4X2 Sonoma extra cab with ZQ8 and loved it. Sold it to my son and he had it for a long time. Seems Holden 4X2 is only a flat-bed looking thing?

    1. Yes it will come in two wheel drive.

Not sure on the sport suspension. I too had a ZQ8 Sonoma extended cab and would love to find another just like it new but they are all pretty much used up.

The options like suspension and tires are going to be different here. Overseas markets and our markets have different wants and needs. If they did not have the need to change anything then they would not still be testing it for out market.

I do expect some kind of sport package and off road package with larger wheels and tires for both.

  6. I like the truck but also agree the nose needs to go. It looks too much like a 2008 Malibu. The nose of the Traverse would look more up to date.

As for the name Colorado needs to go. Lets face it the name is tarnished as the present truck just never lived up to expectations.

But I am not so petty to bail just because of a name.

I also wish they had made it smaller like a S10. This thing is nearly full size and will be priced similar. I just need a small truck to beat around in. If I were to pay that much I would buy the full size.

The size makes me wonder what GM has planned for the future of the 1/2 ton trucks. There are games to be played to get around the CAFE rules. Trucks like this and the Ranger are not by accident.

  7. Good tough commercial, nice looking truck. I am not too enthused about the previous generation Malibu themed front fascia, but that look might be preferred in international markets. I expect the N.A. Colorado replacement to be more like the next-gen Silverado, but with a bit more adolescent look, such as a little brother.

  8. I am mixed about the looks. The front end looks quietly handsome but not tough or with toughness. I would like to see maybe a mix of both worlds, a handsome and tough looking truck. This design come off more on the soft side but not bad.

Will admit the ad is great. It shows more of the capability of the truck. This is exactly the ad that GM needs, especially here in the US when it rolls off the assembly line and into dealerships.

  9. Maybe they should put a cake in the bed and tie a piano to the bumper to better relate this to the Marketing experts. LOL!
