With all the hubabuloo surrounding the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and its newly-announced High Country and Texas Edition variants, we almost forgot about the next-generation Chevrolet Colorado (if it ends up being called that). However, recent spy photos have put the mid-size truck fresh in our minds once again.
From the looks of things, the new midsize Chevy truck will bear visual similarities to the 2014 Silverado, with a boxy nose and dual-port grille, while the interior and powertrain remain a mystery. Based on reports, however, this new truck will boast impressive fuel economy numbers… for a pickup. Expect the finished product to launch sometime in late 2014.

Is it me or does this thing look massive compared to outgoing Colorado or former S-10… Wow seems very large.
Yes, they are; they’re supposed to be. GM is redesigning these as “mid-size” trucks. They are essentially an all new truck, just keeping the Colorado and Canyon name.
One thing I really like about the Colorado in other markets is the front flows into the overall design language of the vehicle extremely well, I know there are those that dislike the front because it takes on design ques of more car like vehicles. My concern is that our model has a nose that has the apearance of being tacked on or litteraly an after thought.
Front end looks like my wifes 2012 Equinox???????????
“Hubaloo”? I think you mean; “hulla-baloo”.
Good one. I think these are really sharp looking trucks. Quite an improvement.
This truck looks great! I don’t like the boxy Gmcrado, looks like a futurists version of trucks from 1966. This truck looks great, love the “powerdome” hood and the big Chevy spilt grille. Is this coming to America?
these are showing up more often now is aus, they are big when compaired to our non truck driving market, here their are no cafe rules so all vehicles are built to the same market rules, only those willing to pay the fuel bill will buy these.
Saw some of these running in Baja last week being used by the Mexican Marina’s. Full flat grey camo paint jobs. Also, FYI, all Mexican built full sized Chevy trucks are badged as Cheyenne’s and Mexican F-150’s are Lobo’s.
Add a Voltec-powered version!
You mean “Vortec” 🙂
Well, here’s another Chevy product that has moved from promise to disappointment. Giving this vehicle a mini-Silverado look is a mistake that will eventually prove to be so.
these trucks need a long bed so you can haul something like a dirt bike of sled without leaving the tail gate down not a ext cab to haul people.
looks nice, though i think the front end is more suiting for a malibu
I’ll have to see it in person down the line. I’m hoping it looks smaller than it is, since I don’t think it’s a good idea for this to be too close in size to the Silverado. Looks pretty slick in photos.
Still needs a V8 option!
I beleave that that the next-gen 4.3 with 285 HP. with six speed tranny is all that you would need to get Good power and fuel econ.
No mention of the Vortec I-5 engiine.
I’m thinking the I-4 and I-5 will be replaced by newer engines with better size-to-power ratio. The existing 2.8 I-4 is powerless (I know, I own one) and the 3.5 I5 is a gas hog that doesn’t offer enough power for the crappy gas mileage. My guess would be that the new truck will have either the 2.4l or 2.5l I-4 as base and the 3.6 V-6 and 2.2l turbo diesel as optional.
You must drive your truck with a lead foot. I have the bigger 3.7 in my 355 and have heavy AT tires and get a combined 20 mpg. It’s not the most powerful engine by any means but its plenty for a truck. And the new trucks will most likely get a diesel option (the 2.2 probably) which I’ve heard great things about in the Cruize.
Actually, 80% of my driving is cruise control highway, so my foot doesn’t even come into it most of the time. These current engines just aren’t efficient. GM’s newer gas engines are far better by any measure, but I’m only interested in diesel anyway, at this point.
Now the rumors are suggesting that the diesel will be either the 2.5 or 2.8 liter I-4 from the Asian market, which probably makes more sense for a truck. The 2.2 won’t have enough grunt for any real work.
It will most likely be the 2.8L. I’m really interested in the diesel as well.
What is taking GM so long in getting these things on the road? It seems like we’ve been talking about this truck forever.
with new 2013 full size loaded 4 WD silverados selling for less than $30K they need to wait till all the 2013 are gone
I’ve owned three Colorado’s. I loved my 2007 Xtreme and I have the 2011 LT 3 with the 5,.3 V8. It fast and I get a lot of compliments. I don’t like the 2014 Transverse front end. The style is old, it doesn’t look like the Silverado. A truck needs to look like a truck not a SUV. I think GM BLEW IT !
We want a Truck ! This new Colorado look like a car… No… GM is loosing me here…. This new truck is for ladies with high hell driving in middle of a city!
What a ridiculous comment. Not everyone wants a huge gas-guzzling truck. I’m only interested in med-sized truck that can haul a little, go off-road when I need to, and deliver excellent fuel economy. You can have the gas-guzzlers!
Please be more respectful. All comments have a positive rating. I love small truck however the Colorado looks like car.
Sorry it’s my opinion and not yours my friends.
As mentioned in someone post it is indeed an ISUZU DMAX
Z………….
I really like the new look. I prefer a small-med sized and capable truck, but let’s face it, with top notch competition like Frontier and Tacoma, Colorado had to get bigger and tougher just to compete. Rumor has it GM will offer their mediocre 2.2 liter turbo diesel as an option. Makes sense as it’s already offered in the Chevy Cruze. It’s not a perfect diesel engine from what I’ve read, but this is the one ingredient that could give it a huge advantage in a very competitive segment. Sign me up for the diesel!
Look identical to an Isuzu pickup I saw a week ago in Aruba
i love my 2004 colorado crew cab z71 ls the only things is that it lacks space for passengers in the back seat or not enough room for a car seat , i hope the rear window is replaced with a power window controlled from the front seat i.am glad to see they are putting the shift back on the floor where it belongs ,
