2014 Cadillac CTS-V Sedan Continues With A Few Color Changes: RPO Central

Even though Cadillac will launch the all-new third-generation 2014 CTS sedan in a few short months, the brand will keep the second-generation Sigma-based CTS-V around for the 2014 model year, since the V variant of the all-new third-gen Alpha-based CTS won’t be available for at least a year after launch, if not more. So the Wreath and Crest brand is making a few last changes to the second-gen high-performance sedan.

But don’t get too excited, since all of the changes to the M5 beater are color-related. In particular, three colors are deleted, and two new colors are added:

Deletions

  • Exterior color (GBE) Crystal Red Tintcoat
  • Exterior color (GLH) Thunder Gray ChromaFlair
  • Exterior color (GWS) Glacier Blue Metallic

New Features

  • Exterior color (G7E) Red Obsession Tintcoat (available at extra charge)
  • Exterior color (G7Q) Phantom Gray Metallic

Are you planning on getting one of these outgoing (second-generation) 2014 CTS-V sedans? Will you wait for the all-new 2014 CTS sedan (perhaps the CTS Vsport)? Or will you await the upcoming 2014 ATS-V instead? Let us know in the comments.

  1. Now to see what the new colors look like in-person, or at least see really good high-res pictures of them. I also want to see how the red obsession compares to the crystal red tintcoat because my dads 09 v sedan in crystal red looks GORGEOUS on a sunny day, so i’m curious as to how it would look in the obsession. I wonder if the new red is of a deeper or lighter tone or more of a candy apple like the crystal red or what. Wow, now i’m anxious to see the 2 new colors in good quality pictures.

    1. I think the 2 new colors are in the photos below the changes.

      1. I could be wrong, but i think the red and gray that are shown are the deletions. However, the dark gray shown could be the new phantom gray…or it could be the black raven or black diamond. I’m comparing the black raven and black diamond from the caddy site to the dark gray front 3/4 shot shown above and they look REALLY similar. Unless however they’ve already produced a few ctsv’s in the new colors and have already had pictures taken of them and have had them posted somewhere…in which this site got its hands on them and posted them here. I still tend to think the pictures shown are the deletions though.

    2. IMO, Red Obsession is 1000 times better than Crystal Red. It was the color they chose to debut on the new 2014 CTS, and was therefore shown at the 2013 NYC Auto Show. It’s a much more vivid color, and more of a pure carmine than what Crystal Red was — a color I’ve been all too familiar with (it seems nearly every GM media car is this color, it annoyed me to the point where we almost wrote an April Fool’s story about GM discontinuing it. How ironic would that have been?).

      1. Oh so that red that they debuted the new cts in WAS the obsession eh?I’m hoping it was just a combination of the angle of the lighting as well as the lighting itself because it seemed like more of a fire engine red, which i’m NOT crazy about. Its too bright for me. The reason i liked the crystal red was because it seemed like a darker richer red, very close to a candy apple red imo. Would you say the obsession is more like the torch red of the C7 or more like the crystal red?I realize the cts and c7 are two different cars with 2 different color selections, but the reason i ask that is because i’ve seen indoor photos of the C7 convertible in the crystal red and i think it looks gorgeous, yet i’m not crazy about the coupe in the torch red because again to me it resembles a fire engine red too much. I’m waiting to see this obsession both in shade and in direct sunlight to see what it REALLY looks like.Hell if i can even see it on an ats or xts indoors i’ll take that. I just need to get a really good idea of what it looks like both indoors and out. If its too bright i’m afraid my old man wont consider red as an option when he gets the ’15 v-series…thats if it even debuts at next years NYC show, which i’m hoping it will, because i’ll be going to see it in person. I’m anxiously awaiting that reveal.

              1. Comparing it to the crystal red it does in fact seem a lil lighter AND i think i’m seeing a touch of pearl in it too. I still have to see it in person though, both indoors and out, to make my final decision as to whether i like it or not. Those ARE good shots of the red though.

              2. Wow, this just occurred to me and now i’m wondering, since they debuted the new CTS in both the red and the gray and since according to you and Manoli the red WAS in fact the new Obsession addition, is the gray that the Vsport has been shown in up to now the new Phantom gray?

      1. Any word on whether the 0-60 for the ats with the n/a 3.6 being 5.4sec is conservative or not and if so by how much? Because in that link where it says the 0-60 for the v-version should be around 4.5 i have a feeling they’re being conservative about that by at least a tenth or two because i remember reading somewhere that the projected 0-60 for the cts with the LF3 would be in the mid 4’s…so if they’re putting that same powertrain in a lighter car (atsv) i would expect it to pull off a 0-60 in the low 4’s (4.1-4.4).

  7. Wait, does this mean that the 2014 CTS-V is NOT getting CUE? The 2014 CTS (non-V) is getting CUE though right?

I hope not, I am seriously considering a CTS-V for my next car (early/mid 2014), and I am really worried that I am going to gate CUE!

    Reply
    1. Yupp, the 2014 CTS-V is not getting CUE, since it’s still the second-generation CTS.

      Reply
    2. Wait, how did you come to that conclusion when this article didnt mention anything about CUE. It does say that, ” the Wreath and Crest brand is making a few last changes to the second-gen high-performance sedan.” It even says, “don’t get too excited, since all of the changes to the M5 beater are color-related.” It doesnt mention anything about CUE at all. I REALLY dont think that integrating CUE into the final iteration of the 2nd gen V is one of the “last few changes…” to be done. CUE is for the newest models that are already out like the ATS and XTS as well as the newly debuted ’14 CTS and CTS Vsport. Without knowing for sure I’m still pretty damn certain that it will also be in the incoming ATS-V, ATS Vsport, and CTS-V as well as other models that will follow that we dont know about yet. Although to be honest i hope the systems timing with its tactile feedback improves IMMENSELY because i’ve seen its “lag” in reaction to a person’s touch in multiple videos and have read about that specific shortcoming in multiple reviews. Its timing, or rather lack thereof, is crap. My dad was even driving a loaner ATS the other day because his ’09 V sedan was being kept overnight at the dealership for fluid changes, tuneup, injector cleaning etc… and he said that the timing of the CUE system is WAY off in terms of a person touching a certain icon, the screen reacting, and the next screen coming up. If you want me opinion i think that If you want the most recent V-series WITHOUT CUE stick to the ’13 and ’14 2nd-gen V’s because i’m 99.9% sure that it WONT have CUE in it. I REALLY dont think they would retro-fit CUE (physically) to fit into a 2nd gen CTS/CTSV that already has a nav/audio system when CUE is their system meant for NEW models anyway. But hey…thats just my 2 cents.

  8. I really think that Cadillac is doing a HUGE dis-service to the V brand by coming out with the other variants like the “V sport”. I am on my second V, first was a 2007 now 2012 coupe and most likely the 3rd gen when it comes out. I really like the V for the performance but also because it is limited and you just don’t see a lot of V badges on the roads. If Cadillac continues to produce lower variants the badge will just lose its meaning and nostalgia. Hopefully this doesn’t happen…..

    1. I half agree and half dont. I understand WHY Caddy is introducing the Vsports, which is to bridge the gap in performance between the base cars and the V-series for those who may not be able to afford a V or want one, be it for the increased fuel consumption or the fact that 556 stampeding ponies just may be too much for them, but still want to be able to enjoy a more capable and fun to drive car along with some of the amenities that come with a V-series. Yet at the same time i do agree with you in that the Vsports may potentially take away some of that luster…some of that “unicorn affect” (in that, at least from what i’ve experienced, you just DONT see that many on the roads…more like hardly ANY)…that feeling of exclusivity, knowing that you step on the loud pedal and that thing is taking off! That older guy or young boys reaction (who know a ctsv when they see one) to when they see a V-series and they say aloud, “oh sweet, its a ctsv!” Like you, my old man currently has a 2nd-gen ’09 v sedan and i’m pretty sure he’s in love with it. I’ve mentioned to him that (with a general feeling of certainty) an all new ctsv MAY be debuting at next years NYC show because i’ve read several articles confirming that an all new ctsv IS indeed in the works. So far the only thing i know about it is the motor that will be used and that it will either be s/c’d or tt’d. So being the fact that i live in North Jersey and he in central NJ him and i will DEFINITELY be going to see that beaut in the flesh. I just cant WAIT to start seeing new spy shots of that thing and some styling cues to be leaked.

  10. I just leased a 2014 Phantom Grey V Sedan so I can wait out the Gen 3’s arrival. GM can be hit and miss with the first model year of new generations of rides. It will not hurt to wait. If the Gen 3 is amazing, the first model year will be hitting their model year end deals when my lease expires. If the Gen 3 sucks, like if Caddy decides not to continue with the Supercharged V8 and sticks with just the Twin Turbo V6, then I can purchase my 2014 at lease-end. Win-win situation.

    1. Reacher — congrats on the 2014 V! I’m sure you’ll enjoy it thoroughly! From what I’m interpreting, it’s a short-term two-year lease. Am I right?

As for the third-generation CTS-V, the “real” V will (unofficially) have a force-inducted 8 cylinder, while the VSport will have the twin-turbo six.

      1. Yeah short term 2 years. It will be fun 🙂 I come from the SRT8 family and am pretty happy with the upgrade. I’m not the first in my car club to make the switch to the V.

        2. So, if you dont mind me asking…how is its “get up’n go factor” and responsiveness compared to the n/a V8 of an srt8?Reason i ask is because i’ve been in 2011 srt8 300’s and well…they hurry up’n go pretty well…and despite the fact that an srt8 is up 2 cylinders the hp/tq numbers (of 2011 and earlier srt’s) are right in the same neighborhood as ’14 CTS V-sport’s tt 6.

          1. I got the 2014 Supercharged V8, not the V-Sport. I didn’t test drive the V-Sport because a TT V6 isn’t my style. My 300 SRT8 was Stage 2 modified and pushed right around 475-490 horsepower. When I dropped the hammer it PUSHED me into my seat.

Dropping the hammer on the CTS-V V8 pushed my stomach out of my bottom and that was just the test drive. I feel a significant and measurable difference in the Giddy Up factor. It’s smooth from the supercharger and not sharp like a twin turbo. First stop is a new pulley and a dyno tune and cranking the boost up to 13 pounds. The tune and the extra boost will put a lot of ‘snap’ into it compared to the stock feel. Then she’s going to be un-freaking-REAL when dropping the hammer.

Hope that helps …but honestly, it’s free to test drive. Go have fun and try them both 😀

  11. Oh ok gotcha, i forgot that there were still gen-2 V-series for ’14. I automatically thought you meant the V-sport. I think the new ’14 CTS looks great in the phantom grey so the ’14 V must look suhWEEET in it! Yea i’m well aware of the gen-2 V-series because my dads daily driver is an ’09 V sedan, but in an automatic unfortunately. I dont get to ride in it often or drive it NEARLY as much as i’d like to (i dont live with him) but the few times i HAVE been in it and he’s mashed the loud pedal for a second or two all that goes through your mind is, “holy s$%^ this thing pulls like a sonuvab**** for a 4300lb car.” My dad also doesnt QUITE have the nads i wish he did to explore its capabilities, so its not like the car is ever on something like a road course, which to me would be its home, where it can stretch out and play. Which in my mind is REALLY unfortunate. My dad was thinking about getting a stage 2 pulley this July from D3 in California, which deals exclusively with Caddys, but at the last minute he wussed out. I dont know if he’s going to reconsider it down the road…i hope he does. I’m also familiar with the response of a stock 2011 300 srt8 since I’m friends with an older guy who has one who just recently got a Diablo tune and intake put on it. According to him that was supposed to have gave him an extra 50-60hp, which would put it at roughly 470 at the crank. He said he’s breaking the rears lose in second, which apparently it wasnt doing before. The car had NO trouble doing that in first w/o the tune to begin with. I’m familiar with how both cars pull and theyre both a frigen riot…and thats just from the passenger seat. You went from one kickass car to another…happy burnouts!! 😛

  12. Thank you Alex, for documenting the M.Y. changes between the -Vs.

Just before Christmas I bought a “2014” sedan (“bold new graphics” edition) in Phantom Gray. Oh my, how nice.
Notably: I had a unit located and shipped in from another dealer, in nearly the spec I wanted, because by the time I visited the dealer in early December, GM apparently had stopped production of the -V variant or was at least not taking any new -V orders. I was trying to special order so I’d have it in a couple months closer to good weather and built exactly as I wanted it. I’m not surprised since GM would likely not be able to justify running two lines in order to produce both Gen 2 and Gen 3s. But what WAS surprising was that the ordering manager at the dealership was not informed, as he said he usually is, that special orders were no longer being taken as of the day we tried.
My experience having bought several last-run outgoing-generation vehicles is they are usually the best of their breed as to quality and performance, so I am happy to have my 2014 (ahem “2013+”) V.
And just watch GM not produce a LSA Gen-3 V now that they have their twin-hairdrier V-6 worldcar to peddle. I’ll then name mine the “Last CTS-V” and revel in its uniqueness for a very long time to come.

So fellow readers, if you are after a new, now “old school” -V, ya better get on the ball and find one of the few remaining new-stock units left out there.
