The latest fad in the luxury vehicle market is the four-door coupe body style. Take the amount of doors as a sedan, with the functionality of a coupe, and viola! Four-door coupe. When explained in that way, it’s hard to understand the appeal of such a vehicle. But all one needs to do to essentially get it is to glance as an Audi A7, BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe, or Mercedes-Benz CLS. They’re niche, but they’re sexy, and therefore add appeal, personality, and lifeblood to a brand overall.
Which begs to question, should Cadillac pursue a claim in that market space? Perhaps it could be a variant of the all-new 2014 CTS, or something else entirely. Let us know what you think by answering the poll, and giving feedback in the comments below.
Meanwhile, the discussion regarding Cadillac needing a proper two-door all-new CTS Coupe continues.

“Tardy to the Party” already. Too many of these slow sellers on the market already new & used. No need going there!
i am pretty sure many will not want this, but i certainly do……not only will it offer world class style, but it will also give breathing room for the up coming flagship……..putting a car in the middle of the CTS and the flagship will also give buyers another option if they cant afford the flagship, but dont want a CTS…..and from the amount of A7’s and ClS’s i see on the road i am pretty sure it will carry its weight…..also riding on the alpha platform it will drive down cost of R&D……
plus it will eye candy for cadillac in which it needs ! they have the foundation model (ATS, CTS, flaship) now start building some wild….
Here is your Gran Coupe, resurrecting the Seville name might not be a bad idea at that.

A new Seville would be super….but, make it unique again with a luxe interior and not too big 🙂
I think they should go for it especially if it looks anything like the 2014 CTS , I agree with lance this vehicle needs to slot between the CTS and the upcoming flagship Im all in for a 4 door caddy coupe.I can see it now lower than the CTS and a coupe profile not to mention art and science.Of all the auto makers Mercedes with the CLS, BMW with the 6 series grand coupe and Audis A7. I truly believe Cadillac has an advantage over the competition, caddy’s art and science design theme was made for that kind of sleek coupe design it would be fairly easy and sexy……..
Cadillac may have come along way in the past 10 years, but they are still establishing themselves. I don’t think there are in a position to start offering these type of cars just yet. They need to get their core models down pat, which means new SRX and Omega flagship. Have an ATS coupe, conv., V, CTS-V. Maybe even a halo car before they start with the nonsense like the X6 and GandCoupes. And they especially need to improve their presence world wide.
Great comment. I think the ATS is pretty close to a Gran Coupe in my mind; the BMW GC just lowers the rear roofline (a lot like the 99 Pontiac Grand Prix!). Take an ATS, put a big engine in it, a unique front & rear fascia and call it an La Espada /Talisman/ Laumet- something cool like dat. This should not be a “V” product, Gran Coupes are “luxury sport” cars for the sophisticated gentleman/lady, not “redline” stuff.
At some point yes by they need to get the important things done first.
Once they get the LTS and other models in line a so call 4 door coupe would be nice.
I find the name 4 door coupe kind of dumb. These cars are just sleek roofed cars and Cadillac could add one at any time with a little work to the roof of one of the present cars. Most of these models are low volume so lets get the work done on the profit cars first.
Isn’t Cadillac not doing the LTS?
No, plans surrounding the LTS are unchanged. It’s a vehicle *above* the LTS that was recently canned.
i agree with andrew cadillac still have a ways to go to be a major player in the lux segment they need to focus on profitable vehicles that will help establish the brand as a major global luxury contender lets get the coupes to market (ats coupe, convertible and cts coupes hopefully) next the flagship and large crossover to slot between the srx and escalade then do the four door coupe because by that time they will have hopefully had a ROI on the alpha platform so they could undercut the competition price wise and still be profitable all while having a sexy design utilizing the lastest version of art and science
There are several core products that need to be winning market share for GM before they can fund the “fun” stuff.
1. A new Flagship of course.
2. A new SRX that in closer to X5/Cayenne than RX350
3. A new ATS based X3/Q5 inspired SAV
4. A new edgy ATS Coupe, Roadster Convertible (1 series, Z4). These products should show how progressive Cadillac can be.
5. A new beautiful CTS based coupe that is more 6-series or A5 than the current CTS Coupe. This product should show how beautiful a Cadillac can be. Think Ciel.
6. Lets not forget Escalade. Hope its more GL than Tahoe.
In my opinion Cadillac needs a electric coupe, small coupe, medium coupe, large coupe & a super luxury coupe priced accordingly as a flagship.
I like the idea of a 4dr coupe (however daft it sounds) & feel Cadillac as well as a different Buick/ Vauxhall/ Opel model model would perhaps cater for a market that would maybe take offence at the word saloon (even if we ignore the marketing as a coupe we all know its a saloon) & yes I feel they’d sell a few.
I think although it’s better for Cadillac to concentrate mostly on smaller cars, It’s good for a car like a four-door coupe from Cadillac to see the light of day. I believe it doesn’t necessarily need to be a CTS variant. it can be close to CTS with CTC name or something like that.
I’m convinced these 4dr coupes (so called) are not here as a niche filler or to turn a profit but to reiterate their manufactures presence in their sectors ie luxury saloons, coupes & general prestige therefore Cadillac & Buick need one too.
Isn’t a 4 door a sedan and a 2 door a coupe?
It is. Right now, “4 door coupe” is marketing talk for cars that were once known as “Kammbacks”.
Audi A2, Toyo Prius, old Citroens. It isn’t a new design, and it isn’t really nice to look at either.
Kiel it’s all down to marketing bull along with all this prestige nonsense. Some buyers think they are a cut above & wouldn’t drive a saloon or something from a marque associated with MPVs for examples, so hence the 4dr coupe. In reality it’s another saloon (nothing wrong in that btw) that will sell for twenty grand more than its equivalent saloon by the same manufacture.
Agree with many posts above. Cadillac should focus all of it’s resources on doing a few things well. Escalade (please, please can we have a refresh here), ATS, XTS. Big markets, big opportunities. They’ll trip like so many other companies if they try to differentiate models too quickly while leaving the big attractive spaces where they can win if they have 100% focus to their competitors.
V8 John, with all due respect. What are you talking about? “Saloon”…..
Saloon is to the English and some Europeans what Sedan is to North Americans. Same car bodystyle anyway.
Saloon that’s described as a 4dr coupe
@Kiel, some parts of the world, Europe especially, refer to sedans as saloons. Wagons are called estate or combi cars, too.
Not at this time maybe down the line Cadillac can look at that..But I just think Cadillac need work more with Ats, with coupe, and wagon, and what there going to do with xts, if there going to keep it on when the s class 7 series,.Cadillac figher comes….., And to I heard they want to make two seater as well..So maybe down line I can see that in the future for cts, four.door coupe..
Oh yes, saloon = sedan, estate = wagon, MPV = minivan to name a few of the variations of the same.
We used to have the terms; 2 door coupe, 2 or 4 door sedan and 2 and 4 door hardtops. The difference was the “post” or no “post”.

MichaelW, great renderings… Love these…
I think they are cool too! Those are from Casey Shain “Art and Colour”, you should Google his stuff. He gets it right most of the time.
NO! Because not only is the idea stupid (no matter how many times you call a 4 door fastback a coupe, it’s still just a 4 door fastback) It’s a waste of a car.
“Yay look we made a car with 4 doors that doesn’t have the usefulness or practicality of a sedan, and none of the light weight and actual sportiness of a coupe!”…Wait, what?
Caseys renderings are good, need to work on my photoshop skills :-)…
Isn’t a 4 door coupe like a Saturn Ion Quad Coupe or is it just a sedan with a coupe roof-line?
