Production Begins Of 2014 Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra 1500 Pickup Trucks

Today is April 29, 2013. And it’s the day that full-scale production begins for the 2014 K2XX Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 1500 pickup trucks, sending them to showrooms all over North America, according to sources. Specifically, it’s the Chevy Silverado and Sierra 1500 crew cab models that will be built first, with deliveries beginning in late May.

By mid-July, the extended cab models will begin production. And by mid-August, the two-door regular cab models will begin rolling off the assembly lines. The 2014 Silverado regular cab will start at $24,585, while the 2014 Sierra will begin at $25,085. Both prices include destination. When equipped with a 5.3L V8 and two-wheel-drive, the half-ton light duty trucks are EPA rated at 23 highway miles per gallon.

  2. Looking forward to seeing the 2014 silverado crew cab in Northern Alberta. Planning to trade my 2008 LTZ.

  3. The name “extended cab” has changed. It will now be called “double cab”.

    1. I’m so glad they switched for B-pillar hinged rear doors. I hate extended cab trucks because of the inconvenience of the suicide doors.

      1. I actually found the extended cab doors on previous trucks to be quite useful, especially when loading cargo into the back. Though I understand why they did this and I like it too, I also like that it will be less difficult to close then the extended cab doors of my 99 Silverado during the winter.

  4. The interior just isn’t working for me. Maybe it’s the colors they show on the Chevy site. And I’ll have to keep waiting for GM to let me get the max tow package on a reg cab truck. Let’s see what the next Gen heavy duties are like.

  5. Has anyone found HP, torque, and, fuel economy for the v6 or big V8?

  6. Do I trade my 2003 Silverado LS in on a 2013, or 2014? Decisions, decisions. Or keep driving my ’03, still superbly reliable at 200,000 km, even if the surface rust is starting to show.

  7. do we have a diesel option….

    1. really interesting point. i wonder if GM should go more luxury with its Chevrolet line and professional with its GMC line. right now the interiors are slightly different although neither interior is true luxury like you’re describing. that would solve the issue.

i once heard the chief interior designer for RAM, a German, say that he visited some customers in Montana who pull $1 million worth of horses with their truck and it clicked with him that some people like luxury and also want trucks and there is a market for a high quality luxury truck interior.

    2. Please tell me there’s a diesel. I wouldn’t mind 25 combined mileage with high torque ratings. Even just making the engine, I would buy the engine and put it in my truck right now.

  8. I now flat out like this truck. Like most I wasn’t sure when it debuted. But it looks great on the outside with some really nice new features (side steps, for one), and a solid mid-level V8, though I still wish the 4.5L Duramax would’ve been in it with an 8spd.
The interior is what wasn’t a big fan of. I’m a car interior kind of person, I love my CTS’ interior (I know a CTS and Sierra are far between lol), but I like smaller scale. And for the most part, late model Sierra/Rados have had car interiors implanted in them. I like this interior because that isn’t what this is.
Im thinking the interior of the Escalade, and maybe Denali, will be much more to my liking, not just the leather and amenities but the proportions.

This is a good truck, I wouldn’t say great, but very solid and a good vehicle for GM to have in it’s corner.

One thing I hope is that it gets a floor mounted 4×4 shifter as an option over the knob.

  9. I would consider one if it weren’t for GM’s ridiculous procrastinating on releasing HP/torque and mileage on it’s 4.3 V6 and 6.2 V8.

  10. Ordered mine in March, suppose to be in sometime in May. Looking forward to it.

  11. Me? Get one of these things? Surely you jest. Hate every angle of these things. Why would I want to waste time with something like this when Ram will have a 1500 diesel? I see these trucks for what they are…products designed by a set of people who refuse to acknowledge that GM is a new company with customers who demand the best products and marketed by a set of people who are too ashamed of themselves to admit the catastrophic error in judgement. These trucks will not do what GM is claiming they will do. Mark my words. Like the current Malibu, they will be “refreshed” within the next 365 days.

  12. I love the suicide doors. bring them back. I plan to trade my 08 but, I want the suicide doors.

    1. The suicide doors are great, no B pillar in the way for certain shaped objects going in and out of the rear seat area. Also great to keep older, but still impatient kids inside, they can’t open the rear door until you open the front one first, keeping them safe at times, when they forget to look first.

  13. Few things…
No talk of a diesel option.
No HP TQ /mpg figures for the New 4.3…although, the 23 mpg report for the 5.3 gives an idea.
Why in the hell do the crew cabs get a Tundra rear door?
That said, I will be taking a gander when the hit the dealers. Its a toss up between the RAM v6 and the Silverado v6 crew cabs for me.

  15. Woah there guys, if production is starting today, why does the guy living in the neighborhood over from me have a 2014 white Sierra 1500 crew cab already? When I saw him driving it the other evening I slammed on the brakes and just watched!
It is very nice in person.

  17. Does anybody know if 2014 Silverado/Sierra models are going to have rear-seat air vents on extended and crew cabs, depending on the trim and front seat console set-up? I really liked that when they had it on the 99-06 and 07 Silverado and Sierra Classic models that had the console optiona. It’s really a convience for rear seaters to be comfortable year-round.

    1. Test drove a new 2014 Sierra SLT crew cab a week ago. No air to the back seats. None. Plus, when front seat passengers turn on the seat cooler, the warm air vents directly into the backseat. Combine that with no AC into the back seat and my Dad was roasting during my test drive.

      Ridiculous GM.

I really like the look, the ride, the interior and new smooth tail gate and bumper step but no air to rear seat is a deal breaker.

  18. I guess I’ll give it a few months for them to work out the bugs and then I will order a GMC. Really looks good to me. Am after the heavy duty towing package to pull a camping trailer and don’t like to use more than half of my towing capacity. But I sure know what my old grandfather would have said in his broken english. “To much coins”.

  20. I agree with Tyler and disagree as well. The suicide doors for the back of the extended cab GM trucks was quite useful especially when loading bulky, precious cargo. The new B-pillar makes it impossible to load larger items in the back seat with such a small door. I don’t see the point in ruining a perfectly good concept. Once the door was flipped back against the wall of the bed, you could have A LOT of room to easily put things in the back. While I do realize the inconvenience of having to open the front door in order to allow your kids to get out at soccer practice, buck up and spend the extra money for the crew cab if you need that much space for more people.

From what I understand, people say that in the extended cab without the B-pillar may feel like it has a ‘twisting effect’ over rough roads or railroad tracks, I have owned 4 extended cab trucks, 3 of which had more than 2 doors, and never felt that effect. I live in Oklahoma where the road are terrible…not a problem.

Give me back my suicide doors GM!!!

  21. Never was a fan of the swing out rear doors. On my GM 900 series, the driver side door catch was machined wrong , rattled like crazy and the dealer was too lazy to swap it out. Told me to slam it shut. Kudos on the new doors.

These trucks sit on the same wax coated frame that GM refuses to cover under its rust warranty. When the coating peels off after the first year or two, your new truck will look 10 years old underneath. Better befriend a Ziebart dealer. Or the oil spray guy. The only fix for it.

First cold winter with your 2014?
Check out GM truck forums and see how many are no-starts in sub-zero weather. Dead batteries, bad starters, quirky remote starters and frozen exhaust system flaps are in your future when its below zero out. Hey, Just a few first year bugs to work out.

  22. well GM has outsourced there 1500 series trucks to Mexico to save 1000 bucks a truck. The American tax payers bailed out GM to be rewarded with this. So enjoy your Mexican assembled (61% parts made in America) Texas edition Truck. No I didn’t work for GM but I paid taxes and will never buy a GM ever.
