While all the hype continues to surround the supercar humbling 2014 Chevy Camaro Z/28, attention has averted away from the already proven-to-be-mighty Camaro ZL1. And of the entire V8-infused presentation from Chevrolet during the 2013 New York Auto Show, a refreshed Camaro ZL1 was absent. Curious, we inquired as to whether or not the 580-horsepower muscle car will see the visual restyling found with the rest of the 2014 Camaro lineup. The answer is yes.
Expect the similar change-ups, such as the rear tail lights reminiscent of the first-generation model, and a revised head lamp design. The front fascia will essentially stay the same, and many of you may have noticed that the restyling of the 2014 Camaro takes a cue from the wider lower grille currently found on today’s ZL1, which makes for improved downforce and breathing.
The ZL1 will also compliment the LS7-powered Z/28 by being the more livable of the two. By that we mean it will have standard air conditioning, a Chevy MyLink system with a full set of speakers, HUD, magnetic ride control, etc. And with their capabilities in mind, the two vehicles may arguably be the best one-two punch from any automaker, and that’s not even counting the 2014 Corvette Stingray.

What about a power increase? Because the z28 is to close in power to the zl1
I wouldn’t call a 80hp difference, between cars with different intentions and both over 500hp to begin with, a close power gap.
The SS, after all, is ~75hp away from the Z/28, and the V6 model is 100hp shy of the SS.
I’d imagine any significant power increase to the Camaro will come next generation
I thought I read somewhere, actually I think it was here that the lead engineer said that all the different flavors of the Camaro would receive the refresh except the ZL1 due to it NOT letting it breathe enough. But this is awesome! I was kinda bummed when I read that. It made the lineup not “blend” as well. So great news like alway GMA!
i wouldnt count on it…probably wont see a power bump till the gen 6 alpha platform maro
I made a spelling error before and wasn’t very clear on what I actually read. So here’s my corrections.
Great news like ALWAYS GMA!**
And to be more specific I read that just the front fascia would not receive the refresh.
I guess my dream car is the current 2013 ZL1.
The 427 should be in the ZL1 with a super charger for 2014. Now that would be a car!
No stereo, air conditioning or automatic for the Z28 for 2014. What is that a 396 slug?
Give me a break. Not interested. Just a selling ploy. Don’t waste your money. Lots of cars with 500 HP will beat it as it just makes a lot of noise. Take the computer off the ZL1
and nothing will beat it. The ZL1 is still the bad ass of muscle cars even in 2014.
The original ZL1 had a aluminum 427 engine. In fact the ZL1 was named after the engine. So if any Camaro deserved the 427 it should of been the gen 5 ZL1
Now the Z/28 has it. A Camaro that was originally fitted with a 302 engine.
That’s pretty ironic in my book. But it is what it is………
@Andrew that maybe true in some cases but both are pretty much built to do the samething track oriented cars. And then the z28 is now just as fast as the ZL1. So I think a power bump is necessary. Hopefully a supercharged 427
GM cannot seem to supercharge the LS7 (427) the cylinder walls are too thin to handle boost. At least they could not Warranty it as they seem to come apart in most of the testing.
2013 ZL1 RULES THE Z28 WILL NOT BEAT IT
