2014 Camaro Z/28 Caught Testing Around Nürburgring Nordschleife “Carousel”

It’s brief, but this is the first known footage of the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 testing around the massive and challenging Nürburgring Nordschleife, specifically, one of the carousel sections. Certainly looks to be moving quite fast, despite the section being one of the slowest parts in the 12.93-mile track.

To guess a time, we must first take in that the 500-horsepower, LS7-powered Camaro Z/28 is faster than the 580-horsepower, LSA-powered Camaro ZL1 by an average of three whole seconds around the 2.9-mile Milford Road Course. That’s a huge difference in such a short track. On the ‘Ring, a track over four times larger, with far more elevations changes, twists and turns than MRC, the ZL1 managed an amazing 7:41.27.

So, anybody want to make an estimate on what this latest Camaro variant will do around the ‘Ring?

Former staff.

  1. Well, I think if they have Jim Mero behind the wheel I’d wager 7:30 +/-2sec

  2. 7:36.227

  4. 7:30-7:35. Realistic

They claim 3-4 sec better at VIR and with the green hell being so long even a high 7:29 may be possible with a crazy run. This track is equal to 3 in one track in length.

  5. Why bother with the Camo? we know very well how it looks like.. 7.37 would be my guess, the ZL1 has more power for the few straights and long bends but the Z/28 is godlike on the tons of corners and twisties.. on Forza mototsport 4 I modded a Camaro SS to Closely match the Z/28 as much as possible with all the data we know. and managed a best lap time of 7.39.88 with out the race spoilers after 10 laps….so I would think a Z/28 with it’s aero package and very real specs would be about 2 seconds faster over all… I did the same thing for the ZL1 before it was Available for download I was about 1.8 seconds off the real car.

  6. Did this guy really just use a video game as comparison? Lol

    1. It’s not uncommon for professional drivers to use sims like iRacing. Forza is a pretty shit sim and someone else mentioned Dirt which is even worse. Gran Turismo is the closest console racing sim.
If you think video games a re a joke for driving, the Gran Tursimo 5 Nissan Academy (or whatever they called it) had the winner race in a real, live, Pro-Am race series and the video game driver (obviously was the amateur on the team) were turning out faster and more consistent laps than some of the pros so the race series said no more GT5 competition winners.

Why is this? The gamers can lap a track 10000 times and know every single bump, where as pro drivers are going from track to track. Same reason why engineers are putting down record Nurburgring times instead of a company getting a factory racing driver. Prime example is Jim Mero (corvette engineer) or John Heinricy (retired Director of GM Performance and ex Chief Corvette Engineer).

  7. Drop another 400 pounds and decrease the height and frontal area…A LOT…then I will be impressed.

  8. yea I did. many professional race car drivers use forza 4 with a multi monitor set up for practice and tuning set ups…

  10. A good PC racing game with a good wheel/pedals/shifter is extremely realistic…esp when you can adjust downforce , diff , suspension , etc.
    Dirt2/3 are great !

    1. Dirt is a shit racing simulator. Very fun arcade style game, but physics and driving dynamics could use a bunch of work

  11. No biggie, but I want to point out that there’s more than one Joe here. My guess is there’s probably three or more. FWIW, I haven’t posted anything in a couple weeks or more until THIS very post. Carry on.

  12. Forza 4 is not shit…it allows for more realistic settings and set up with the cars and more accurately portrays them with its physics engine . im not knocking the original grand turismo or any of them I have both gt5 and forza 4..forza to me is better in every way except gt5 gives a realistic rear view from the cockpit.
    apples to oranges….Andrew.

    1. Forza is an amazing game, but it is a shit simulator (which is what I said above). As far as driving sims go, GT5 isn’t great either. But between the two, GT5 takes it for driving characteristics and dynamics. I like Forza better as a game… as a game.

  16. Watch it in road racing…Camaro`s top end is drag-limited and it is too heavy and does poorly.

  18. Americans need to get over their “let`s make it bigger , taller , heavier ” than the imports syndrome.
Keep the power , cut the weight , improve the aero.

    1. No Europe. Needs to get over let’s tax every thing. Les’s tax the fuel. Let’s tax the engine displacement. Let’s tax them if they want to drive into the city. That’s why you guys can’t get real cars.
