Imagine if Chevrolet never retired its classic names, like Bel Air, Kingswood Estate, or even the EX-122 (the Corvette’s original Motorama concept car). It’s not that today’s vehicle names are bad, but it’s tough to beat the color and personality of the classic ones.
Take note, however, that whoever created this listing (found on Jalopnik) thought that the Impala name was important enough to keep around. Also note, that the Camaro has been renamed to Chevelle, which is actually appropriate, considering its size.
What do you all think?

Aww hell no!
Equinox being yeoman and avalanche is advanced design???
You could call the Stingray the Welfare Wagon and it is still a hot car. Actually, Bel Aire may be more appropreicate than Malibu, Malibu suggests fun when the car in reality is more of an uptight road beater.
Corvair wasn’t that the controversial one ;-P
Only because we know different it comes as a shock. If these was the norm nobody would bat an eyelid. Got me thinking to some of the older names in place of VXR8, Insignia, Corsa, Adam, Agila etc. Interesting fun, non serious topic of what could or might have been 😀
Interesting. I think it would be great to bring back some of those names. GM tosses them out too quickly.
Have the Biscayne, Bel Air and Impala all models of the SS make. Biscayne no options stick shift bruiser, Bel Air a few options, Impala completely decked out with only 4 seats all luxury
It must have been a slow news day over there. Glad this is not the way history of Chevy played out.
It’s the calm before next week’s storm. Bring your umbrella.
biscayne on cruze it’s just weird…..so is chevette on sonic
Although the brand management era was much criticized, one valid comment was that GM failed to live with the various model names. Instead they were allowed to get stale, requiring a new moniker and heavy marketing costs to establish. Consider that there has never been anything other than the Civic or Accord for those two lines of Honda. Like it or not the Chevette name remains the ideal small Chevy name. Pity its originator was so dull even if it was almost indestructible.
I wish that cadillac would switch back to some of there classic names.
Cadillac dropped the names for letters…I feel this diminishes the brand; ATS, CTS, XTS…doesn’t mean much and lots of people don’t know these are Cadillacs…bring back Calais, de Ville, please
Some of them are cool, but most of them age. People want hip names for their cars.
General Motors attempted to hue it’s products with an Euro flair by resorting to indentifying with the more economical Euporean cars style model designations in order to competitively market their brands against the growing Japanese penetration of the domestic car market.
American Marketers refused to believe the Japanese were anything but a temporary fluke created by the oil embargo and that American auto consumers were basically bigots and preferred European connotations over Oriental economy and reliability.
