  1. Do you find anything cheap in the interior? Are there any gaps and ect?

    Reply
  2. How obnoxious is CUE? Is it liveable? The reviews make it seem awful to live with.

  3. Is anyone actually going to buy this? Seems like the most boring car I’ve heard about in a while. They should revise the CTS-V…that would be far more exciting.

    1. Good follow up question would be: “Will I be able to get a weekly rate when I rent it?” No one will buy this car west of the Mississippi unless they are in the 75-to-dead demographic.

  4. Whats the 0-60 time and how does it handle when the roads get twisty?

    Reply
    1. 0-60 on XTS is 6.8 seconds.

      Reply
  5. How is the NVH? Is it quiet when starting up, when running? Is the startup smooth or shaky? How is the ride over rough roads? Any squeaks or rattles?
Basically, all the small things like this that don’t matter much but should be resolved on a Cadillac.

  6. Is the ambient lighting a gold white or an ice blue? It looks different in every video. What do the door handles look light when lit in the real world?

    Reply
    1. Ambient lighting is warm white (gold), with the exception of the map lights, which are ice blue.

  7. Why didn’t they just go straight up and make it RWD and give Buick/Opel a full-sized car instead with this?

This photo seems to have been taken in the same environment as the two images accompanying the blog entries about Cadillac in the UAE (United Arab Emirates), [here only one link, since more than one links put this contribution on moderation]: http://gmauthority.com/blog/2013/02/cadillac-offering-test-drives-in-dubais-international-financial-center/
You see the red brick and green painted brick houses. Probably some former harbour or storage area somewhere in the USA (and certainly not in the UAE).

These images show a diffuse light, which is the best light to take photos. The photography team has probebly used diffusers, reflectors, or additional artificial light sources to get a better image.

          2. @Observer7 wow, that is truly immaculate attention to detail on your part. However, the photo of the ATS you’re referencing was taken just outside of Detroit, and the one seen as the featured image of this particular article was taken in Colorado. As soon as we’re finished with the video shoot today, I will upload the full gallery. The images really turned out great!

  10. Is it coming to Europe as a Omega?

    Reply
    1. It will come to Europe as the XTS, just like the ATS is named ATS also in Europe.

Why should Cadillac use different names on different continents, when the world is growing together as one more and more?

      Reply
  11. Actually, maybe not, at least it is not yet listed on http://www.cadillaceurope.com

And if some north-american GM model comes to Europe as an “Omega”, this would rather be the Buick Lacrosse.

The Cadillac XTS sits on the same long-wheel-base Epsilon II platform as the Buick Lacrosse (and formerly the Saab 9-5), but the C has 10 cm more length.

As far as I can see, GM stopped badge-engineering between Opel/Vauxhall and Cadillac on the one hand and Chevrolt on the other. Opel/Vauxhall is married to Buick.

  12. We don’t get Cadillacs in UK, last ones was STS & Escalade & even Lancia’s are badged Chrysler here. Vauxhall/Opel need a big saloon or two (preferably RWD), I can see on a global scale everything seems to be merging however where dose that leave loyal buyers who wish to upgrade to a newer model?

    Reply
    1. Whow, the UK being the second largest car market in Europe, and cadillaceurope.com lists only three dealers on Great Britain, and one of them proudly claims to be “the only approved cadillac dealer in the UK”: Bauer Millet in Manchester http://www.bauer-millett.com/make_cadillac.asp

The necessity of having right-hand-drive cars might be the problem.

  13. My question. . Why is this thing front drive?

    Reply
    1. It is front drive, because it is built on a front drive platform, Epsllon II

      Reply
  14. Does front wheel drive get in the way of the driving and luxury experience? As in, does it bug you that a $60,000 car came with FWD, since GM cut corners?

    Reply
  15. Bauer Millett has been selling GM cars for decades & is the only official dealer, based in Manchester I regularly as a kid looked through his upmarket Deansgate showroom. Nowadays his showroom is just off Deansgate still selling the GM cars & now other Prestige models 🙂

  16. With regard FWD, I like a RWD, V8, long, low & wide kind of car, yes these days it’s possibly considered not PC but I don’t care, I like what I like. That’s not to say other stuff is bad, not at all, but there’s no substitute for the V8 😀

    Reply
    1. It’s not that V8+RWD are not PC (because it isn’t an issue of being PC), it’s just that combination doesn’t sell anywhere near a well a FWD cars do.

So I wouldn’t blame GM using it’s money to make any car on a FWD platform to sell to a wider audience than to reduce their chances with a car that would cost more and have little to no public appeal.

      1. @Grawdaddy

I would expect that GM would develop more cars based on the new RWD Alpha platform which is being used in the ATS. And larger cars, too. Already Holden had announced that the successor to the current Chevrolet SS will be based on an international platform instead of on the Australian Zeta platform.

I can imagine that the Alpha platform is more flexible than earlier ones.

        Reply
        1. @Observer7

It could also be said that the Alpha platform might not allow itself to be scaled up to something the size of the XTS anyway. GM has has the Epsilon2 platform for a while now and I don’t think the XTS would have cost as much to develop from Epi2 than the Alpha.

In that case, the XTS might just be a one time thing. Whenever the Omega platform comes out, a SWB versions of it could underpin a next gen XTS and all other large – full size cars; from the SS to the Commodore.

As for Alpha, I don’t think we’ve seen what GM will do with it just yet. It’s still a reletively new platform and only GM knows what they will do with it.

          1. Omega platform?

            Tell me more!

            Reply
            1. Here’s what I know:

At GM, “Omega” means two things. The old Opel/Vauhall Omega car, and the proported name of the full-size RWD/AWD platform.

This platform, unless something has changed that I’m not aware of, would underpin Cadillac’s largest and most well appointed car; their much anticipated and yet unnamed flagship car. This platform could also have SWB verisons that could serve other GM cars offered by other divisons/brands.

At least that’s what I’ve read. I don’t think anything GM has said in a press release has mentioned anything about the platfrom or an S-class sized Cadillac.

You know as much as I know.

              Reply
              1. @Grawdaddy:
“an S-class sized Cadillac” — The Audi A8 has exactly the same length as the XTS (5,131 mm = 202 in). The 2005 Mercedes “S-Klasse” has (with standard wheel base) 5,076 mm (199.8 in), only the LWB model is longer with 5,209 mm (205.1 in). [all data sourced from en.Wikipedia.org]

            2. @Observer7 Yupp, what @Grawdaddy said.

The Omega architecture has been an elusively-rumored item. Here’s what we know:
              http://gmauthority.com/blog/2011/04/cadillac-rwd-falgship-sedan-to-use-standalone-omega-platform/

              http://gmauthority.com/blog/2013/02/cadillac-dealers-demand-rumored-omega-flagship/

What’s more, Alpha was really envisioned to be a mid-size architecture scalable downwards (to compact), and isn’t modular (without some major sacrifices) for a full-size 7er/S-Class-size vehicle.

              Reply
    2. You are correct in what you like in a REAL luxury car, that’s why Lexus, BMW, and MBZ make the RWD sedans you prefer. This is also why Cadillac has been struggling for the last 25 years and not seen as a luxury brand offering the PRODUCT and QUALITY of the brands I mentioned.

  17. I’ve seen reviews about ATS that people tests the ATS and the have the radar detector on. The connector of the radar detector touches the capacitive touch controls and whenever it swings around, it touches one of the buttons (for example, volume control), and want to know if it does the same thing on the XTS?

ATS is RWD, XTS forward wheel drive.

XTS is based on FWD plaform Epsllon II, just as Buick Regal (= Opel Insignia), Buick Lacrosse, Chevrolet Malibu and Chevrolet Impala.

ATS is based on a new platform called Alpha.

BTW, Audi’s top of the line A8 is basically a FWD car, when it does not come with “quattro” AWD.

    Can I drive it? 😉

Seriously, these things are as hard to get into at GM as a Corvette. This, along with the ATS, have become the hot car to get in our employee Ambassador Program (where we get to bring a car home for a week to let our friends and neighbors see/drive).

  26. In terms of driving experiance RWD is better, also the sound of a V8 or to a lesser extent V6 is pure pleasure. Yes there is always going to be a market for 4 cylinder cars & FWD however that don’t mean egnore RWD & V8’s there is still a market for them.

    1. Who’s driving experience? I love my FWD vehicle in the snow and it allows more room in the rear.

So for me the FWD is a better driving experience.

    2. I don’t think the intended XTS buyer really needs a throbing V8, or if they really care if the car is FWD. AWD is available on the XTS, but the car doesn’t lend itself to hooning with that kind of set up.

I mean I know where you coming from with the RWD+V8 setup. The platform and the buyer of the XTS aren’t up for it.

      That’s why there is the CTS-V. 🙂

  28. Other then the obvious, is size the only difference from the ATS to the XTS? I also would like to know I believe the XTS is built at General Motors top quality plant in Oshawa Ontario, is the XTS top in quality?

  29. Is the 4 wheel drive system rear-wheel-biased? I unfortunately assume that the answer is no. Lack of RWD is what keeps this car off my shopping list. So I am eagerly waiting for the new CTS.
Audi finally figured out that you can t have a luxury brand with FWD, so they made their AWD rear wheel biased. I wish we could communicate to Cadillac to make all the AWD versions of their FWD cars rear wheel biased so that these cars can also make it on the shopping list of those of us who have to have the feel of RWD.

As a follow up, how is the torque steer on an AWD XTS? How does the weight distribution figure into the driving experience?

  30. Why does Cadillac have different color options for the different models ?? For instance on the XTS you have the choice Silver Metallic, White Diamond Tricoat, Silver Coast Metallic, Crystal Red Tintcoat, Graphite Metallic, Black Raven, Black Diamond Tricoat, and Saphire Blue Metallic. My wife and I prefer the Summer Gold Metallic, Glacier Blue Metallic, or the Opulent Blue Metallic, BUT these colors are only available on the 2013 Cadillac ATS !! WHY DOESN’T Cadillac have one MASTER COLOR CHART to choose from for all models ?? A luxury car customer should be able to choose the color they want for the model of the Cadillac they want and not be restricted to colors like the Sapphire Blue Metallic that is so dark that it looks black from a distance without sunlight or a bright light on it !! BUT that is the only blue choice for the XTS !!

    Reply
    1. Michael — I know what you mean. I believe that the difference in color offerings is due to the fact that the XTS, SRX, and ATS/CTS are built in different plants (Canada, Mexico, US, respectively) that offer different color palettes. Once the brand consolidates the vehicle architectures (Alpha, or Alpha-derived variants), the manufacturing consolidation should follow suit… and the color offerings should become more uniform.

      Reply
    2. Michael…yes, the color availability is crazy…..I do not understand why there is no white, green, or maybe ivory/yellow….why pay $1,000 for a color that is not even unique to Cadillac….white diamond is on most all GM cars; XRS has Platinum Ice and is stunning….Cadillac should be special and have special, not similar to everything else 🙂

    ATS 2781

    http://gmauthority.com/blog/2013/02/by-the-numbers-general-motors-january-2013-sales-up-16-percent-in-u-s/

    3 series 4800
    5 series 2585
    7 series 583

As you can see the XTS is greatly outselling the 7 series:)

Seriously the 7 series cost $70k base while the XTS is $45k. So obviously it will greatly outsell it.

The 5 series is the same price at $46k. And with some of the comments above I would have thought that there would have been a huge sales rate between the two but as you can see they are not that far apart. (25%) So the XTS is actually doing pretty well for its price range.

    Reply
  34. And to continue the Audi A6 is $42k and it sold 1259 units (including S7) so the XTS is doing well against its closest FWD competitor.

    1. You know, driving the XTS has made me do some contemplating at it relates to its competition, and I think I’ve finally got it: the car’s closest competitor is the Lincoln MKS. Both are based on stretched midsize FWD architectures and both are similar when it comes to price, layout/drivetrain, dimensions, technology, and the intersection of purpose and ride/comfort. What do you think?

      Reply
      1. I have driven none of them.

How does it compare to the A6/A8? I believe the A8 has the same relatively hard ride as other VW’s but how do they handle in the turns?

A Lincoln comparison is probably appropriate because, against what folks think here, not everyone wants an expensive car that rides relatively hard (BMW). There is a large market for a large lux vehicle that rides softly yet can handle any normal driving situations they will run into.

Can anyone say the XTS has poor handling that 95% of drivers will complain about? I didn’t think so.
