True, we don’t yet know all of the details about the 2014 Silverado and Sierra (such as the power and fuel economy specifications — any day now), but we’re asking you anyway: do you think the two new GM trucks will lure owners of Ford, Ram, or Toyota pickups to the GM stable?
In asking that, we should keep in mind that the truck market isn’t like any other in that buyers have traditionally been very brand loyal — most likely the only loyalty remaining in the automotive world, as buyers of vehicles in other segments tend to frequently jump brands. And since the 2014 Silverado conservatively improves on the formula of the existing truck, GM will likely be able to keep its current customer base… but will it be able to attract those of competing makes, thereby increasing the market share of the highly-profitable vehicles?

Maybe. Sepends on the new motors
I hope so. Think the Chevy front looks better than the GMC too.
Thought the Toyota & Nissan trucks were small sellers
Compared to GM and Ford, Toyota and Nissan are small sellers indeed. But they sell, nonetheless… no idea why.
Nissan’s truck volume is negligible maybe
There should be a global market for these, with at least one outlet per country. Could sell to footballers as a luxury car, military, as a mini truck all rounder & used as a base for conversions. Look how well the land rover defender, Toyota Landcruser & Mercedes G wagen and Unimog have done creating a niche market.
The Tahoe, Yukon, Escalade, and even the new TrailBlazer — being SUVs — are better competitors to the likes of the G wagon and LandCruiser (also SUVs).
For instance, the TrailBlazer:

Tahoe:

Suburban (long Tahoe):

All of these are based on their respective truck versions (Silverado for Tahoe/Suburban, Colorado for TrailBlazer), and are marketed for the family — rather than for work. The Cadillac Escalade more or less makes a G-wagen competitor:
Escalade:

Also, the Tahoe/Suburban, Yukon, and Escalade are about to be replaced by all-new versions based on the new truck vehicle architecture (K2XX) shared with the new Silverado/Sierra/
Gmc pickup sales be bigger ,,,and help gm whit to tale sales..
Give a us a true ZR2 Raptor Hunter! Please GM! Or give us the small Duramax in the 1500! We want long travel suspensions and 500lb/ft tourqe with 30 mpg! I know you guys can do it and you will dominate the market with these setups available!
Sierra will have a conquest percentage at least 10 points higher than Silverado, in my opinion.
I don’t think the Sierra will overtake the Silverado although I like it better. But GM overtaking the competition I would like for it to happen being my two favorite brands of trucks, but I wonder how Ford’s new truck will be like. I hear they are using different types of aluminum that are stronger than what most car makers use. If it whines up being lighter than the Silverado it will have a good chance of having the better fuel economy, and they probably advertise it just like their Ecoboost engines.. That being said I know the GM trucks will be strong quality trucks, but I don’t know if people care about that as much as they use to since people buy new vehicles every so often.. They just care about the latest and greatest.. I would like to see GM take back some market share in the truck department and I think they will..
Nope. I think it will only appeal to brand loyalists because it doesn’t look too much different from the one today. When the F-150 was radically changed it attracted new buyers, this is an evolutionary change that is unlikely to do that. Plus, Ford isn’t standing still, they got new truck coming soon. I like this new Chevy, I like the F one-fitty too, but I’d probably buy a Dodge (Ram?) with that cool rear coil spring suspension! Those drive pretty nice.
We’ll see how far Ford goes. I’m betting they out innovate GM in many respects.
Agreed on the small duramax. Where I live (western Canada) everyone who buys a truck wants a diesel so are forced to buy a 3/4 ton. If gm was the only ones to offer a small, fuel efficient and powerful duramax in the 1500 they would be the only ones in the market to offer it, and as such, I’m POSITIVE they would sell more trucks as a result.
Yes I know it don’t compete with the aforementioned veichles (I was using them as an example) what I am trying to say is that I feel there is a yet untapped niche for GMC to exploit to a world wide audience.
Fuel economy and pricing will be major factors in GM gaining conqest sales from F -150, Ram and Tundra.
Not as much as they could have with more original styling. Too many people do not notice the new trucks.
The auto show I attended where they had a 2014 surrounded by the 2013 it went largely unnoticed.
Now they were in line to sit in the new Impala.
Good truck but they held back too much on styling.
I agree… they could have done a bit more on styling and they are too damned BIG… a lot of people like GM and Silverado because they are more reasonable size. Garages, parking spaces, all of that are really not built for huge trucks. Leave the huge to the HD line!!!
I think there’s a chance that after the initial sales surge from the “gotta have the new one” crowd, the sales of these may dip below current/recent levels. Why? They have little if any “wow” factor? As several have mentioned the styling is nothing great at all. Even though the engines will be all new and make good power, they will be the same displacements and will be branded “EcoTec3”? woohoo. Lastly, PRICE! I’m guessing these trucks will be expensive versus the competition? Based on comments made by Reuss, I’m thinking they want to try and use the “coming soon” 7/8 size Colorado/Canyon trucks as the lower priced option? Personally, I don’t think the public will accept that.
Price isn’t my problem. If they upscale the Colorado. Get it bigger than it is but definitely smaller than the Silverado and they put the same equipment in it and have nice interior and exterior fit… top notch colors and really make it a quality truck rather than the “second line”….. it will sell to those who can get away with, or like me, prefer a bit smaller truck but not a compact. My 2004 Ext Cab is perfect… it fits me and my garage and it does what I need. I have acreage and I need a truck. Building materials, landscaping materials, plants, trees, feed for my horse and dogs … all of that. But I am at a point that I can do this with an SUV if I have to. AND the Honda Ridgeline is pretty cool too.
I wouldn’t even bother talking about Tundra & Titan it’s all about the big three isn’t it.
I hope that both trucks do well, but I am anxiously awaiting news for the 2014 Canyon. I plan to replace my 2004 Canyon that is loaded with options that I hope will be a part of the new Canyon.
I hope the Canyon and Colorado are going to be a tad bigger… to make up for the bigger Silverado. They need to step up production… This is insane to wait years for a new model truck or SUV… Other companies just do it.
Fords suck! You can’t even grease the front end there are no grease fittings and this is for a truck! And the transmission is sealed! No pan no dipstick or anything! Lol lets see how long these ecocraps last! The sync systems are glitchy at best! Bent Frames on the Raptor! The list goes on and on! Ill trade my 2004 Silverado that’s never had anything wrong but a dead battery and trade it for a new Silverado and be happy another 10 years while I hear about all the F150s taking days/weeks/months to repair simple items back at the dealer! Ill be happier in a ZR2 Duramax!
Those Ford features you mention really do suck. The front-end grease is synthetic I think so it never needs maintenance (GM did this with the Regal in 1988!) . But the transmission lack of dipstick really sucks, they did this on my Mustang too, real scary.
I agree 100% Ryan. I have a 2004 and it just is time but I would NEVER go to Ford or Dodge. The sheet metal on a dodge is so thin that a fender bender is a total. No one makes a truck like GM/Chevy
I have some bad and some good news.As i was browsing for info on future diesel option for the 2014 / 15 GM trucks and found information that there will not be diesel opt for the 1500 trucks, but that GM going to offer a diesel as an option in the 2014 Colorado / Canyon pickup trucks.
its gonna be a negative number…
no HID headlights, air suspension or more fuel efficient engine on a $50k vehicle? bye bye Chevy, hello dodge or Ford. same thing of true for the Tahoe. all nice options go into the overpriced Denali and escalade. at least put some HIDs in the Silverado or Tahoe. the escahoe already has LED headlights. time to trickle down options to the step brothers

As far as I know, trim level info isn’t available for the new trucks yet, so it may be very possible that the Silverado will get these features…
NO. Just too damn ugly. And I’m a 26 year GM-exclusive, 6 truck driver. GM had therir chance and blew it.
I don’t think so. GM should have went for a new look like Ford is with the Atlas concept. Maybe after another 6-7 year cycle, they will try something NEW.
Dose that mean Toyota sell a few?
I agree with Ryan. We need a ZR-2 NOW! As for sales, I don’t see it setting the world on fire or grabbing sales from any competitor. It resembles the current truck too much and lacks aggressive styling. I don’t know why they bothered to mask it for so long , they weren’t hiding anything.
And you think the introduction of ZR2 trim is going to save this ship?
Laughable.
