GM U.S. Sales Up 7 Percent In February 2013: By The Numbers

General Motors sold 224,314 vehicles in the United States in February 2013, representing a seven percent increase on an annual basis.

Retail and fleet sales were both up seven percent compared with the same time frame a year ago, and the fleet mix was 25 percent of total sales — equal to that of a year ago.

All four of GM’s U.S. brands saw higher year-over-year sales:

  • Chevrolet up 5 percent to 158,541 sales
  • Buick up 15 percent to 16,150 sales
  • GMC up 9.8 percent to 35,778 sales
  • Cadillac up 20.3 percent to 12,571 sales

In addition, crossover sales were up 17 percent and sales of trucks were up 14 percent while car sales were down 4 percent. Full-size pickup truck sales were up 28 percent to 58,039 units. In addition, the Chevrolet Spark and Cadillac ATS posted their best sales months yet, with 2,836 and 3,382 units, respectively.

Later this month, the automaker will unveil the all-new Cadillac CTS and refreshed Buick LaCrosse and Regal at the New York International Auto Show — and GM Authority will be in attendance.

And now, here’s the world-famous By The Numbers series, where we break down GM’s sales model-by-model:

  1. Seems generally the General is doing ok sales wise in America with GMC, Buick, Chevrolet & Cadillac. Also good in China & holding own in Europe with Vauxhall & Opel.

  2. Keep up the good work 🙂 I don’t always agree on everything GM do however GM seems to be slowly gathering pace as far as putting it back where it belongs (both financially & in the model ranges) The worlds biggest & best. I am looking forward to the years ahead & all the exciting new models (and hopefully a few retro ones as well), well done! 😀

    1. Calling for more retro? You’re about 5 years too late.

  3. I don’t see Cadillacs sales going down at all over the next year or two. Great products and more on the way.

  4. Sometimes to look forward you have to look back, Calibra, Monaro, VXR8 replacement, Maloo replacement, Zafira VXR, VX220 to name a few gems from the past/present European/English range.

  5. VXR8 & Maloo would be easy enough to do, as would bringing back VXR Zafira (a 2.8V6 VXR Zafira tour would probably need a little effort) as would Calibra & Monaro but they are not impossibilities. A VX220 replacement possibly the hardest to do & justify (short of buying a flagging unknown sports car company, or teaming up with one like old VX220 based on). As for future plans I’d like to see the Insignia Country Tourer launched, a good looking pumped up (slightly) 4×4 Insignia Tourer (estate in old money) 😀

  6. I know my comments are very English/ European based perhaps other countries populations could express their wishes on what future GM cars they’d like to have the option of buying.

  7. More important than year to year increases is the percentage change relative to the industry average.

It’s only good news if sales increase more than the industry average or if sales decrease less than the industry average.

It’s a tough game – maintaining both profit and market share.

  8. Ouch on that Malibu…

  9. Verano is really on a great roll…I see them a lot of late…ATS is also starting to get its stride..I hope to add to that sales volume soon with one of these two 🙂

  10. Has the Cruze hit a wall? Sales look a little off, no?

    1. The whole segment seems to be down for the month. Focus was off roughly 10 percent as well.

  11. As far as Verano, saw it on the lot next to Regal. Verano looks almost as big and just as nice looking. Guess Malibu has been getting beat up in the press?
