Outgoing GM Pickup Trucks Outsell Ford In February 2013

Just as General Motors outsold Ford in total half-ton pickup truck sales in 2012, the trend continues for February 2013. In total, GM sold 70,088 Chevrolet Silverado and 26,979 GMC Sierra trucks, totaling 104,067 units. That’s more than the sales performance of Ford’s F-Series, which totaled 101,330 units, according to official numbers from both automakers.

There’s also something to be said about the appeal of the outgoing Chevrolet and GMC pickup trucks, which will be phased out to make room for the all-new 2014 Silverado and Sierra pickup trucks this spring — incentives or not.

  1. I would think there are good deals to be had as the current truck inventory is pared down.

  2. That’s only 1 month of the year. 10 more to go before we can declare a winner.

  3. From a consumer’s standpoint, it seems a little silly to not choose a GM truck over a Ford. The reason is that GM beats Ford in reliability and cost to own metrics and costs a bit less. You’ll get a better pickup buying a 2013 pickup over a new Ford or a 2014 GM truck. So, if I were buying, I buy the Silverado as it will save me money and should be more trouble free when compared to the Ford or 2014.

      1. Where did you get $5000? Per NADA they are about the same, which is normal since they tend to have the same rebates for competitive reasons.

On top of the above they both have other various bump ups like competitive trade ins but these are normally on all GM vehicles, not just trucks. But if you have nothing to bring to the table you get the basic incentive and, at least as of today, GM is lower on the trucks.

      2. I also found a one month old copy of Auto News. Last month the F150 had $2500 and the Silverado had $3000. So perhaps you meant $500 difference?
