Just a few hours ago, the very first photos of the 2014 Camaro surfaced after the car was publicly shown on LIVE with Kelly and Michael. Like you, we’re still somewhat surprised that the freshened Camaro first made an appearance on the show for housewives (what’s that about?) — but that’s neither here nor there.
The point is that we’ve now seen most of the 2014 Camaro, and wanted to put the refreshed model against that of the 2013-2015 fifth-generation in a vote. So, based on what we’ve seen thus far, would you rather have the facelifted 2014 Camaro, or the pre-facelift 2013, 2012, 2011, or 2010 model? Vote in the poll below, and then sound off in the comments.

Pictures are so low quality its hard to tell but right now I see pro’s and con’s …
1st of all those new taillights are not so sharp they NEED to have a chrome trim/bezel cause without that they look cheap!
Its more sleeker Glad they replaced the grill that’s been the same for WAY to long wasn’t very attractive besides the zl1 … hope they revise the whole taillight trim thing
And the back side of the one before this looked so aggressive… now I’m not so sure! 🙁 need to see better shots to make my mind about that
I would need to see the interior before I make that decision
Upon further review yea I’m keeping my 2011 Might order thar rear spoiler though…or do a Zl1 spoiler.
Sooner have a Mustang, no thank you I’m a GM fan. I’d sooner have a Monaro.
How is your comment getting down voted? Up vote x a million.
Well first of all, having the 2013 1LE vs 2014 SS in the picture isn’t going to help. 1LE has the body kit, black hood and rims.. it looks great because of those things. But 2013 SS vs 2014 SS I’d go with the 2014. Same goes for the 2014 1LE. But if it is a comparison as pictured, I’d go with the 2014 1LE, it is better looking (again because of the addons) and is a better performer all around.
Should read “…I’d go with the 2013 1LE, it is better looking (again because of the addons) and is a better performer all around.”
The Interior is the same: http://gmauthority.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/2014-Camaro-leaked-6.jpg
Meh…..I like my arm rest /compartment.
Those voting for the 2014 obliviously don’t have a 2010-2013
No one has a 2014.. so should everyone be voting 2010-13? No.
I owned a 2006 CTS, then the 2nd gen came out and there were many things I liked more on the 2008’s. By your logic, because I owned a 2006 1st gen CTS, I should like it more, no matter what future changes bring.
I’ve since gotten rid of my 2006 and have bought a 2008 CTS, the interior is world’s apart. Yet I still really like the C pillar on my 2006 and the overall side profile shape from the 1st gens, it was more sleek and longitudinal/ less vertical.
Point is, undying loyalty to something just because you own it is silly. With the 2014 Camaro, I really like the larger lower grille a la ZL1, same with the new fog lights look much better with a squared design vs the old round lights (hey, I bet that what the C7 designers thought with the tail lights! drrrrr). And the slimmer, sleek, top grille and headlights look great to. A functional extractor is always nice in the hood as well.
But one thing I don’t like is the very front of the hood where it seems to almost curl down to the grille. Obviously this is like that because of the slimmer top grille, but i wish they would have left the front of the hood more squared off and brought the top grille up from the bottom to make it slimmer rather than the other way around.
Those voting for 2010-2013 obviously dont have the 2014
So hard to tell from these crappy pics, but they needed some revised fog lamps across the board, and it was time for the mail slot to go.
This is all my opinion, but here goes:
1. The squished grill opening doesn’t look bad all by itself; the problem is the entire front end is softer (more feminine too), and, no surprise here, it doesn’t match up with the sharply chiseled/angular look the rest of the car has.
2. The chrome on the grill: okay, what’s to tie it in to the rest of the exterior… where else is there chrome on the rest of the car (emblems don’t count)?
3. The squished grill leaves less room for expressive elements. The vertical bars don’t seem to compliment the design.
4. The hood vent: yay, it’s functional. But it looks like crap. As I said earlier, it screams medium-duty truck. Is there an aftermarket hood that looks worse? I don’t think so. Lost opportunity there, for sure.
5. Out back…. where are the traditional Camaro elements??? Huge downgrade. They could’ve relocated the reverse lights, given it some taillights close to Vette’s (minus the vents), a new diffuser, added some more prominent exhaust tips, and they would’ve had something… better than this at least. It would’ve been nice to relocate the CHMSL to the back window, but maybe that would’ve cost too much. It’s European plate ready, though (cost cutting *******).
There’s a grey rendering on a popular Camaro site that looks much better. It has narrow vertical ducts in place of the foglights that match up well with the quarter panels.
All in all, this refresh gets an F (so far at least).
What is a traditional rear camaro tail light though?
68 had twin separated rectangle
69 has triple joined rectangles
early 70s were twin circles
mid 70s were unified single unit
late 70s brought even bigger single unit
80s got single unit but double stacked
the 90s went back to looking similar to the mid 70s only larger
then we have the 2010 twin rounded rectangles
It seems to me that these tail lights on the 2014 are paying homage to every Camaro year/gen, from 2nd-4th generation.
Hey at least They got rid of those hideous chrome rings round the tail lights. That alone is a epic win . I Had to order a new set and paint them black to match my car.
Do wish people would stop nit picking, it’s a muscle car & yes it ain’t perfect but in a world where competition is not wanted & where ideally they probably wouldn’t want to build it. I like it.
It’s clear that when this car was redesigned, it was Bring-Your-Kid-To-Work Day.
Seriously, the gigantic battleship sized lower grille and pinstripe upper? The absolutely awful and goofy rear European cost-cutter taillights? That cheesy hood mounted heat extractor, which is just above useless? The hood cowl is far too wide, they were designed for your carburetor and air filter clearance and cooling (when cars used to have those). And it even has drug dealer inspired 22″ rims?
For fuck’s sake, man, all it needed was a new dashboard. They’ve made this into a Mustang laughingstock.
Great comments, this “freshening” ‘suks. That current Mustang back end is so ‘stoopid looking with cheap plastic all over the place. Just like the 05 Mustang, hang on to the first gen of the re-design Camaro. Dat hood scoop- I have seen better quality plastic on Happy Meal toys. From the cheezy new grill, to the industrial-grade hood scoop, they must have taken a field trip from the Warren design center to Pep Boys, then picked up the latest JC Whitney catalog when they made this one.
The Mustang is coming to Europe with a 2.0 4 cylinder engine lol
Everyone needs to stop the interior complains as you have what you are going to get till the 6th gen in 2016.
Either way I would take the new car because it is nice and it is fresh vs. the older one that is getting a little long in the tooth.
To be honest at this point I would wait for the 6th gen as it will get a great weight reduction that will do more for performance than anything. More power may make you faster but never improves handling and braking like a weigh loss will.
Why does the new Camaro squint at you now? They screwed it up like the squinting Mustang. Why make it look like a ’90s Celica. Rear lights have lost a lot of character. Looks like they went with a “1970” update, great idea but poor in concept. Sales shall fall. EPIC FAIL Chevrolet.
I wish the European mustang all the successes hope it don’t fail & hope it comes in a V8. I am not a ford fan however I realise the success of the Mustang and additional competition will strengthen the market thus more sales of Vauxhall & Chevy V8’s in Europe. If the 4 cylinder mustang fails to which I feel it will (needs a V8) then everyone will say no demand for muscle in Europe and that’s not true. I’d also hate the thought of 4 cylinder Camaro’s, Monaro’s & stuff.
I’d bet the 6th gen, Alpha based, Camaro get’s the LTG 2.0T @ 270hp as it’s base engine. And if it is priced to start at ~$20k it could do very well.
“I’d also hate the thought of 4 cylinder Camaro’s, Monaro’s & stuff.”
That just you, and you’re nowhere near where consumer trends are going. And for the Mustang and Camaro’s sake, their both going to need competent 4 cyl. engines if they are going to be exported globally.
Relax there mike… epic fail is a bit over the top. Change is ok sometimes!
Change is fine, but the trend/style now is large, if not oversized grills. Look at the great new Cadillacs, Buicks, Malibu, Fusion, Altima, Chry 300, Charger, MBZ and even the Lexus’ss (although that one I think is ugly). When they squinted the Mustang in 2010 sales fell, they had to redo it in 24 months- this car will suffer the same fate. Other factors hurt the Mustang, but the styling change (against the trend) hurt it.
The point of a muscle car is to have a big thumping V8 not to have a 4 cylinder turbo & be beat by a little crappy euro hatch.
“The point of a muscle car is to have a big thumping V8”
No, the point of a muscle car was (bluntly) overpowered mid-size coupes. How they are powered doesn’t matter. Mopar’s slant 6’s and Buick’s T/C’ed 3.8 aren’t V8’s, but you’d have to be an ass to exclude their and their importance.
Furthermore, both the Mustang and the Camaro are Pony cars, the compact overpowered offerings of Detroit. To that end, compacts from all corners of the earth have had someone who wanted an affordable hi-po model of a pedestrian car. You know of Hot Hatches and what they’ve made of themselves. It’s the same formula. What engine is under the hood doesn’t enter into it.
So far it’s meh….. From what I can see clearly, I like the tail lights because they remind me of the first gen. I’ll wait for one more day when I’ve learned it’s features and have good views and crystal clear pictures.
When is the official unvailing
Thank for not ruining the camaro … Can’t wait to see other colors.
Oh no! What have they done!!!? It looks like that 90s sport lexus from the rear. And the front looks like the camaro did it with a cruze and had an ugly baby.
Front looks like the current gen toyota camry
http://www.toyota.com/camry/#!/gallery
Oh c’mon @Roni… looks nothing like a Camry. The 2014 Camaro looks mean and lean (leaner than the 2013-2010 in my opinion).
Chevy nutt for life, whatever it looks like from the front doesn’t really matter,,, all the other guys are just going to be seeing what the REAR ASS END looks like as smokes your your ass so quit naggen on the front clip,,god I gotta look in my rear view and see those ugly ass mustangs and them rediculas hemis Chevy. ,, the only car you’ll ever need,,
Don’t care for the new one at all. Looks like a Japanese or Korean knock-off now, far less aggressive. I think Chrysler has the whole minimal change thing down with the Challenger; they don’t screw with success like GM.
Challenger and success is an oxymoron. ChryCo sells like 25% the amount of Challengers as Chevy does the Camaro or Ford the Mustang
I think a fresh new look is good for the camaro. You get tired of same old style every year. GM should change the look so the buyer has a new car with new body lines. It looks refreshed and leaner, Now you can tell thats a 2014 camaro, not a 2010 or 2013.If you want your sales to keep going up you have to refresh the look. GM did a good job.
Psh…all autos? Really? What are these? Grandma’s cars?
All these bad comments, wait for the reveal in about 2 hours; this is a great refresh… I love it…
Epic Fail !!! Come on Michael W wait to see the official release later today . I guarantee we’ll still be building and selling the new refreshed Camaro regardless of all the naysayers !
Wow, I’m a Ford guy but I do like the ’14 Z-28, I think? Being a “Ford Guy” Daaah, what size Supercharger are they using to get the 500HP???:(
427 cubic inches, man.
@scriv it’s naturally aspirated, 7.0L LS7. This is no Ford.
I like the 427 idea! My first new car was a Wht / Blk Int ’67 Camaro. I’ve seen a lot of “nit picken” but for me, after sleepin on it, it’s time for another “new” wht / blk Z-28.
First WOW Z/28 7ltr I think the front looks great and for the tail lights they look ok and will take some getting use too, over all the car upgrades look good and you all should wait to see it in the flesh guys as it can look diffrent to pic,s just one more thing you can’t please everyone all the time, as we all have diffrent tastes. there thats my 2 cents worth.
i do own one and looking at getting the zl1 hopefully with the new front .
The Camaro has always been a muscle car but i cannot accept that 1970’s Chevy Vega style instrument cluster!
It’s really weird looking, i wont buy one with that dashboard.
