Ad Break: Buick Encore To Debut On Television With “Dinosaur”

The Buick Encore, a little crossover with much to like, is looking to increase its awareness in the United States with its first-ever television spot making its debut this weekend on ESPN. And it features terrible lizards. AKA dinosaurs. AKA those things from Jurassic Park.

Buick collaborated with Tippett Studio of Berkeley, California for the CGI Mesozoic monsters for the ad. Also as a fun fact, the company developed the Velociraptors and T-Rex for Jurassic Park itself back in 1993. In the 30-second ad, the compact Encore maneuvers around herds of huge herbivores. A visual metaphor for the vehicle’s driving characteristics.

The ad comes as Buick prepares for its biggest annual sponsorship, the NCAA Division I men’s basketball tournament. Watch it just below.

    1. Ah, those were the days. Great ad. Too bad GM couldn’t run their business the way they made their ads back then.

  4. Like it. Don’t care what the critics say. I think it’s a cute little guy when compared to the dinosaurs. I’d like one. (The Encore not a dinosaur).

  5. And just so no one is confused, that was NOT an actual dinosaur in that commercial (and Jeff Gordon did not drive the Encore, either!). Just thought I should clear that up for any V6 Mustang drivers out there!

  8. Still think there should be a Chevy version available in US. Don’t understand why there isn’t room among the Equinox and Buick Encore. They could drop the Captiva.

  9. I totally agree with thehofinater about this. I believe for whatever reason they are making a big mistake with this. They can have GMC Terrain and Chevy Equinox or the Acadia, Traverse ,and Enclave. But they can’t have an Encore and Trax. What the Hell? Go figure. Bean counters, marketing types, whatever I think these decision makers are all jacked up.
