Ernie Francis Jr. is quite the lucky 15-year-old kid. He certainly isn’t old enough to legally drive a car on the road, but he sure can tear things up on a track, in nothing less than an orange and black Chevy Camaro ZL1. Racing a tuned ZL1 under #98 in the GTS Class of the Pirelli World Challenge for the first time this year, Francis is the youngest licensed driver in the field competing against a long list of experienced champions.
In the season’s first race in St. Petersburg, Florida, Francis started in 31st and completed six laps before going off-course, scoring 29 points in the process. In the second race, Francis ran into some mechanical issues, completing six laps and scored 35 points in the process.
Nevertheless, the 15-year-old from Davie, FL seems to have a winner’s attitude, telling the media, “I am looking to perform strong and make a good showing. I am not expecting victory right away, but will be searching for one at every race.”
The GM Authority Take
Remember the name, because we’re certain that Ernie will be in the spotlight at some point in the future. And hey, maybe those fine folks at Cadillac Racing who run in the GT Class of Pirelli World Challenge can lend a helping hand (or two).
PS: hey Ernie, we love the license plate! Good luck!
