Believe it or not, there was a time where a rear-engine Chevrolet Corvette was on the drawing board. Sadly, it was never meant to be. But the 1964 XP-819 is making a comeback of sorts, debuting publicly during the weekend of March 8 at the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance.
All of the bodywork on the XP-819 is hand-built, and will be on display at the Mid America Motorworks exhibit. Looking at the exterior design, we can see the inspiration for the C3 Corvette, but of course, the XP-819 had the engine mounted behind the cabin.

Wait, is this an RMR or RR layout?
It’s rear-mid (so yes RMR). The ingredients of the title and body of this article just need to get mixed
#corrections it is a full on rear engine layout http://www.corvettes.nl/gm_prototypes/xp819/files/page37_2.jpg
thank god GM never made the 911 mistake!
Woah! Now that’s a shocker.
Thanks Andrew.
This is not the only one they made.
