Striped 2014 Corvette Stingray Spotted, Is It The Grand Sport?

Spy photographers have recently captured photos of a bright yellow 2014 Chevrolet Corvette C7 Stingray with a rather peculiar gray stripe (not pictured). This has led to speculation that the engineering team has already gotten around to testing a Grand Sport model, which would theoretically slot above the “base” Stingray model and beneath a Z06, if we look at today’s Corvette name hierarchy. However, what does that do to the Stingray’s Z51 Performance Package?

Visually, there doesn’t seem to be any differences between this striped C7 and the ones we saw up close at the Detroit Auto Show, except for the lack of Stingray badging. In addition, Chevy currently does not include a stripe as an color option for the Corvette C7 online.

Is it enough to make you believe that a Corvette Grand Sport is right around the corner? Or do you see this as simply a more decorated Corvette than the rest of the prototype fleet? Sound off in the comments below. For a full gallery, visit Autoblog.

  2. Those stripes do nothing for the C7.

  3. I don’t really know what a grand sport would entail. The z51 already includes MR shocks, dry sump oil system, closer gear ratios, bigger brakes, etc. Other than bigger tires and stickier rubber I can’t see how they can improve on the z51 with a GS model without stepping on the toes of the z06 which I would hope will include more improvements than just more power.

  4. The only thing I wish the C7 had, was a rear wing that pops up automatically in the back like a lot of sport cars have now. Other then that the new Vette is fantastic.

    1. The rear wings that are hydraulic do that for down-force and on some applications act as an air brake. Off the top of my head they are all on mid-engined cars so they dont have to deal with a trunk loosing space because of the hydraulics and mechanisms for the wing.

  5. How is this car being confused with a Grand Sport model? They’re just stripes, and they arn’t even close to being in the right spot. Probably just testing a model with optional stripes selected for the car.

  7. I like that yellow C7. I would call it the “Super Tweetybird Canary”!

  8. Black body, black wheels looks best. Has GM ever considered doing two or three Corvettes & expanding it not as a brand of its own right but as a brand within a brand ie Corvette, Stingray & a third miniature two seater like a lotus Elise.
