As it prepares to introduce OnStar services to Mexico, the General Motors telematics subsidiary has announced plans to open a call center in the country.
The call center will be open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and will provide the full gamut of OnStar services conducted by live OnStar representatives. The Mexican call center joins others in Warren, Michigan; Charlotte, North Carolina; and Oshawa, Ontario.
OnStar will be available in some 2014 model year Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac vehicles in Mexico, according to GM. In addition, OnStar will utilize the Telefonica-owned Movistar cellular carrier for the voice and data communications of its vehicles in Mexico.
The call center announcement comes shortly after GM revealed plans to integrate 4G LTE into its vehicles starting with 2014 model year vehicles.

Is there not a call center in the Philippines? I had an Onstar call directed there in one situation and could not understand the operator. I asked for a supervisor and the call disconnected. Perhaps they have now closed this location. Whenever I make a call to a call center I ask where they are located and if NOT in North America I hang up and call again until I get an operator I can understand.
@tp1943 I’m not aware of any call centers in the Philippines. But even if there were one, I don’t see a reason for routing North American calls there, as OnStar takes pride in their call centers’ ability to communicate effectively with drivers, customers, and subscribers.
You sure your call was routed there?
There certainly is a call center in the Philippines as of this morning, 12/3/2014. Handled US customer. Very frustrating.
Yes, as I asked when I had difficulty understanding operator. Just a mystery in space i presume.
Interesting. Let me see what I can dig up.
OK. We think it was 4 – 5 years ( Jan 2007 or 2008 ) ago when I was having problems with my Onstar accounts. ( I have 2 vehicles/Onstar which renew each year in the same month ). FYI:: The cost/vehicle in Canada is $28.20/month. My 2003 Buick was up-graded at my expense a few years ago and is stored for 4 -6 months/year when I am in Florida for the winter. One year they actually suspended coverage and did not charge me as a courtesy which I appreciated. In discussion today with my wife she remembered the situation and concurs.
There is a call center in the philippines and they are well equipped with knowledge of the american terrain.
