Holden Unveils VF Commodore Ute

As we’re reporting out of pure jealousy, Holden has announced the new VF Commodore Ute for the Australian market.

Just look at it. Look how cool it is, especially in SS V form. You know there’s a six-speed manual transmission in the cabin, along with swollen Brembo brakes behind the 20-inch wheels. At this moment, it’s compelling to drop everything we’re doing, move to Australia, and become paint contractors. So long as it means we get to drive a fiery orange 2013 VF Commodore Ute SS V.

  1. I ate my heart out long ago.

  2. Rear is exactly the same as VE UTE. I knew this already but they could have changed the lights.

  3. They didn’t really change anything…?

    1. All of the budget had to spent on sedan and interior in order for Chevy to accept the SS. No money left over for ute and wagon rears. Thought GM could at least changed the tail lights, could have used the Coupe 60 concept’s tail light design. The Efijy Concept’s colour is already used and is available on VE2 Z-Series and VF.

  4. GM owes us a CTS-V Wagon replacement!

    1. Were you one of the few hundred to buy one? Can’t really talk unless you’ll pony up the cash.

  5. I’ll take 1 with the LS3, or the new LT1 variant. It has to have charcoal cloth bucket seats & 6 speed stick with the Eaton G80 rear end. Probably not in orange, grey met, black or even white would be perfect

    1. for aus the LS3 is hsv only (maloo), for a ute with V8 6M and cloth seats it’s the base SS model, SSV gets leather seats and most of the other toys,

  6. Would be my next “car” if GM would bring it over!

  7. I was dreaming the whole “no ute” thing was just a big trick being played on us and that GM was going to bring it over with the SS sedan! At the unveiling there would be three cars in that hanger, Sedan Ute & Wagon & then I realized I really was dreaming!!

  8. Who would rather have a Ute instead of a Silverado?

  9. I’ve heard that’s a reason GM won’t sell the Ute in America, they feel it could steal sales from the bigger pick ups.

  10. Does GM sell full size trucks in Australia?

    Reply
    1. No. The GMT’s are pretty much NA only with very limited sales overseas.

There once was a Holden Suburban, but that didn’t last.

    2. The international version of the Colorado is the only GM pick-up sold in Australia (Holden Colorado). Holden has two utes currently, the Holden Ute and the Holden Special Vehicles Maloo. Previously Holden had 4 utes, the 4 door ute called Holden Crewman and its HSV version, HSV Avalanche XUV.

  11. Don’t think GM sell full sized trucks in OZ. I am English based and the only GM pick up here is the Vauxhall Maloo 6.2L (Ute), we used to have the Vauxhall Brava 2.5L Diesel that came in various 4×2, 4×4 & 2,3 & 5 seater single/double cab variants this model being based on the Isuzu.

  12. I’ve heard of the Holden Suburban, like UK the Aussies drive on the left so are RHD cars. I thought most GM trucks (Yukon, Sierra & Chevy similar) couldn’t be had in RHD so wasn’t imported – was the Holden Left or right hand drive.

    1. RHD. The Colorado is sold here as RHD.

    2. they can be had in RHD just throw 20k or more depending on model at a workshop in queensland aust and wait a few weeks,
with a total ban on LHD vehicles under 25yo having standard registration, converting is the only way you can have a LHD only production car,
when a new vehicle is released they buy one pull it apart and look for ways to convert it,
i spen two years with chapple engineering in richmond in the mid 80’s, most cars were caddy fleetwood/seville and a few trans am’s,
becouse of the depth required to do this work, workshops will only do models they have studied and have certification the grant a roadworthy certificate.

  13. Personally I like the Calais V trim cars the best? They have a clean, upscale look to me and I like the front bumper design better than the SS-V or Chevy SS? Really don’t care for the all black “gaping maw” look? Many new designs have a similar lower grill look? Very silly looking if you ask me?

    1. Because this post is on the ute, I assume you want a Ute Calais model. Holden only manufactures the sports models of the ute and a base model. On the VE Ute, the models were: Omega (base), SV6, SS and SS-V. Expect same models for VF but with Omega possibly being called something different.

  14. I’d be perfectly content with a V6 version. I would even settle for an automatic. I’ll take one in the same blue as the SS pace car for Daytona. Wow, I started to drift off there picturing one in my driveway. Alas, I was only dreaming……

  15. one thing a ute can do a silverado can’t is enter a carpark and take “any” spot available without needing two spots becouse they are so big.
the ute was only built to do light weight work (trademans tools ect) not haul big loads like a chev/ford truck.

  16. I don’t know if GM realizes it but they have an arsenal of ammunition and could pretty much bring back anything like the “VEGA” and it would be an instant hit. Literally, skies the limit, it’s scary!!!!!
