GM’s Front Center Airbag Named As “2013 Best New Technology” By AJAC

During the 2013 Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto, Ontario, the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) deemed General Motors’ patented Front Center Airbag system revolutionary enough to be given its “2013 Best New Technology” award. The ingenus airbag beat out nine other contestants as voted by twelve leading automotive journalists in Canada.

The airbag system, which made its debut in the refreshed 2013 Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Acadia, prevents front occupants from slamming into each other in the event of a crash. The photo above demonstrates a crash simulation without the system on the left, and with the center airbag deploying on the right, keeping the driver and front passenger from colliding. Smart.
