GM Announces Thomas S. Timko As New Chief Accounting Officer

Effective March 18, 44-year-old Thomas S. Timko will be replacing Nick Cyprus as Chief Accounting Officer and Controller at General Motors, as Cyprus motions to retire after a 36-year career.

Cyprus has been GM’s CAO since December 2006. In 2009, his position was renamed to Vice President, Chief Accounting Officer and Controller. His background also consists of executive positions from The Interpublic Group of Companies and AT&T Corp. Rounding out his list of accolades include management positions at Hess Corp., Suburban Propane and PwC. He is also member of the board of directors for Reader’s Digest and DigitalGlobe Inc.

Timko actually comes from outside of GM, previously holding the CAO and corporate controller position at Applied Materials Inc., since March 2010. Before that he was the CAO of Delphi Automotive from 2006 to 2010, and before that he served as assistant controller for The Interpublic Group of Companies from 2004 to 2006, and at Dover Corp. from 2002 to 2004. Is he a “car guy”? We certainly hope so.
