Community Question: How Would You Feel About A Buick Version Of The Holden Commodore?

With the latest intel suggesting that a variant of the next-generation Holden Commodore will be cross-branded in America as a future Buick around the 2016 time frame, it’s gotten us wondering as to how the market would receive such a vehicle. So to get a bit of an idea, we thought we should turn to you lovely readers and commenters and gauge your reactions.

Be honest now. How would you feel if the Holden Commodore found itself in the Buick family, even if it would perhaps be just the upmarket Calais? Take our new poll and sound off in the comments below. To give visual aid, we’ve provided a gallery of the newly unveiled Holden VF Calais.

  1. I like the idea but only if it remains a large rwd sedan. Don’t mess with the mid size segment and leave the regal fwd based. Slot this above the lacrosse and bring back the park avenue name

    1. Keep in mind that the Alpha Platform wasn’t intended to be a full-sizer, but more of a C-D-E segment platform. A full-sized RWD Park Avenue would be awesome in America. But as for the Regal staying FWD, it doesn’t seem wise, as the current model doesn’t seem to have caught on.

    2. Like in China, where a “Buick Park Avenue” is being built from CKD delivered from Australia’s Holden Caprice?

  2. What about Opel? But anyway the Commodore fits better to the North American and even the Chinese market than the current Regal or Insignia. I can definitely see this car as successor for the Regal with a Buick badge:)

  3. Make it a Chevy and bring the UTE and wagon already and be done with it!

    1. Both dead on arrival.

  4. It would be a great addition to Buick but will also strengthn Holden’s export program and thus keeping Australian production going hopefully beyond the 2022 deadline.

    1. Chances are the vehicle would be built in North America, for cost-effectiveness.

      1. Or China along side the Park Avenue (Holden Caprice). It would be likely but Mike Devereux might fight for Australian production knowing how important it is to both the country and the brand.

  5. Hey why not just give Buick a version of every Chevy? I can see it now; The Buick Borvette, Buick Bilverado, Buick Bark, Buick Bamaro, Buick Bolt, Buick Bexpress, and Buick Bahoe & Buburban to round out the line.

    1. lol well said, though the Buick Bolt, that’s actually a good one. But seriously why not make the XTS into a Buick and make a Cadillac Full sized based on Zeta II?

  6. They should replace the Cadillac xts with a high end fwd. buick.

  7. If the Chinese want it, GM will build it.

    It’s as simple as that.

  8. The thing looks like a Buick more than it does a Chevy as it is.
It wouldn’t be a big stretch to sell that car as a Buick.

  9. Buick doesn’t have enough sedans?

  10. The second I saw this article, I thought Buick Regal. It only makes sense to me. The Verano and LaCrosse close in the current Regal, causing it’s poor sales. GM has tried marketing it as a whole different vehicle. Now they can try making it a whole different vehicle, an entry level sport sedan. Sure, it may interfere with Cadillac. The only thing I can tell them is to NOT offer CUE or Magnetic Ride Control on the Buick.

  11. Bring it here now in this Calais form, why wait… Good Grief…

  12. Sell the Caprice as a Buick!

  13. Chevy already has the police version and next the SS. Why would you make it a Buick?

    Reply
    1. Because the Calais is more upmarket than Chevrolet standards. The Holden Caprice is more luxurious than the Calais and is sold as a Buick in China. The SS is a sports car and so it fits Chevy’s profile. The PPV is a stripped down Holden Caprice.

  14. There is a Chinese Park Avenue. On the stretched Commodore platform with fancy reclining rear seats, DVD player ETC. Daewoo had a luxury model too. Why can’t we get one in the U.S.?
