We all have extreme doubts that the Chevrolet SS will actually be priced under $30,000, let alone $40,000. But Americans can still take comfort in that it will cost far less than what Australians will be asked to be pay for the Holden Commodore SS V — the most comparable model to the Chevy.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald’s Drive section, Australian are poised to pay $10,000 more for a VF Commodore SS V than what Americans will pay for a Chevrolet SS. Currently, the outgoing VE Commodore SS V sells for $55,290 AUD, with expectations of the prices to change with the new model to be marginal. Meanwhile, the Chevy SS is estimated to cost $45,000 USD — a price Chevrolet chief engineer David Leone subtly hinted at to the paper — when it launches in the final quarter of this year.
Those with good memories may recall that the Pontiac G8 was about $10,000 cheaper than an equivalent Commodore as well. Too bad we never got our G8 ST.

At that price Chevy is gonna have hell on their hands with the 14 srt charger. for a similar price tag can get you 55 more hp/tq, more aggressive styling, similar style interior, a touchscreen with performance data and an 8 speed transmission which will get highway fuel economy in the mid 20’s!!…im sure the SS will more than likely corner better but its gonna need a tad bit more to really establish credibility against the charger!
They get to keep the wagon which is family man needs. Life ain’t fair. Just because I have kids and dogs, doesn’t mean I’ve lost my cojones
Hell I’d pay that for the Ute, with money left over for a blower, wheel & brake up grades!!!
I expect the MSRP to be about $42K with the only options being a roof and premium paint pushing it up a bit more? I also expect dealers to add a few thousand more on top at the beginning, as demand will likely be strong. After that, if sales slump, GM will just cut back the availability?
Also, I don’t think they really care about comparisons to Charger SRT and others with this car? It’s mission is to offer a sedan to the performance enthusiast customer at a GM store with the Nascar tie in as it’s marketing angle. The availability is about 10,000 cars a year, that’s it. Many smaller market Chevy dealers will only get a few per year if any?
Chevy could sell twice as many if they just 86’d the big Bowtie
on the grille and replaced it with a big SS, instead.
Gee – who’se in charge, anyhow?
The lower fascia is sporty enough, but the grille looks like it
came from a late ’90s, early 2000’s Chevy. Kind of a big
step back for NA design – Holdens haven’t fared well here –
but GM keeps on tryin’….
$45k is too much for that car.
Australian currency is AUD not ASD. The Australian dollar is also worth more than USD currently which means GM is charging us more. When you factor in shipping costs, the Chevy SS is even more cheaper than the Commodore. Yes we get the ute and wagon but if they were to go to USA, they would be cheaper too.
30k for an SS would be ideal, but I know that it will never happen. 40-45k sounds about right with exchange rates being what they are. As long as it doesn’t go over 50k, they should be fine.
i read elsewhere that chevy would price it to compete with the charger ie 29,000 usd
