Going with previous indications that the next line of General Motors full-size sport utility vehicles will launch next year, Cadillac VP of Marketing Don Butler revealed to WardsAuto.com that the latest and greatest Escalade will make its official appearance this fall, which would most likely slate it for the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show.
Cadillac has been keeping things hushed as far as what we can expect from its new luxury behemoth, but it’s more than safe to say there will still be a V8 under the hood, CUE in the dashboard, and an elevated level of luxury and refinement inside and out. And considering how much the competition has stepped up their game lately (*looks at Infiniti, Land Rover*), the new Escalade is definitely going to need it.

Cadillac has been pulling out some big stops this year ! I can’t wait to see this glamour concept that has been on the hush…..Cadillac is definitely not playing any more .
Won’t be a concept
Does this mean the 2014 Tahoe will debut sooner? I am dying to see it!
Luxury and behemoth in the same sentence – kinda sums it all up right there.
It would really be nice on the Escalade and Tahoe if the seats in the back would fold down into a flat cargo area. Go look at the Range Rovers.. Go look at the 84 S-10 Blazer. This is incredible that they don’t make this area useful without passengers. It isn’t cargo area.. that is not a proper term for that at all.
Also, they need to stop making these vehicles bigger and bigger. Women still pick out most cars and they are so big most of us need ladders… GM is really doing themselves in. Instead of trying to get bigger than Ford and Chyrysler stuff why not look at Mercedes and Range Rover for ideas.. OMG how simple is that.
What was the comfort level in the back seat of an 84 Blazer; My 99 Blazer folded flat doesnt mean it was comfortable to sit back there. I have heard range rover seats to be incredibly stiff and uncomfortable…
If GM can add the Voltec system to the future Escalades and Tahoes, then they will sell much better, since the Voltec will give them better than hybrid fuel economy. A basic 30 mile electric range and a 300 mile gas range is a well desired feature for large vehicles. Even the Secret Service will want it!
Be nice if the made the k blazers again….in chevy gmc an one for Cadillac
They can make the rear end of the SUVs option for comfy seats or for useable cargo area. There are a lot of people who don’t use the back seats very often at all. The assumption that the back seats are being used on long trips and in instances where comfort is paramount is not correct. So you should be able to specify the seats that go back there.
Hey guys,
Don’t expect the Escalade to have folding flat rear seats because after all the Escalade is based upon a truck platform and that means it has a live rear axle and not an independent suspension.
I also really wanted to see Escalades with independent suspensions but after buying a 2011 RAM 1500 Laramie with a independent suspension and comparing it to my Dad’s 2011 Escalade Platinum (LIVE AXLE) I’ve noticed independent suspensions don’t work as good off-road or in the winter as Live rear axles. My Ram truck really doesn’t drive as good as GM trucks. They slip like crazy, struggle to drive up icy roads, and tend to get stuck in snow. I’m from Alberta, Canada so we have horrible winters here. The Escalade on the other hand handles itself very well in the winter and rarely slips thanks to the live axle and rear locking differential.
In my opinion I think independent suspensions work well in sports cars, sedans but have no place in the Truck market. Unless its a sportier SUV. Both suspensions have their highs and lows.
I don’t see GM changing to independent suspensions for their trucks because Live axles can tow a lot more and drive better in rough conditions and that’s what the Sierra’s and Silverados are known for. And the Escalade shares the Silverado’s platform. But if GM gets rid of the live axle setup to the independent suspension for the Escalade that would mean they would get folding flat seats. I would really be surprised to see that but it’s highly unlikely.
absolutley the dumbest thing they do, is not puting a light in the glove compartment. I have owned 2 of them and no one can tell me why there is no glove compartment light. we want to buy a 2014 but my wife said no light no sale
I don’t see any reason that people cannot opt for plush rear seats with the understanding that will not fold flat and the probably never will fold them… and they can opt for less comfy seats that can fold flat… some people do NOT use the back seats AT ALL. Should be the buyer’s choice on a high priced vehicle.
Cadillac should differentiate the Escalade as much as possible from the GM Yukon/Chevrolet model. The Cadillac Escalade interior/dashboard should speak of Cadillac product – not a spinoff from GM product “converted” to Cadillac product. If I wanted an Escalade, I would want it that reeks with Cadillac image that you can’t tell it is related to the GM/Chevrolet product. I know Cadillac wants to increase the bling factor and make it the ultimate Cadillac product not an GM/Chevrolet looking product.
I thought initially that Cadillac had considered using a modified Lambda platform that’s used by vehicles like the Chevy Traverse, Buick Enclave and GMC Acadia as moving to the Lambda platform would mean a drop in almost 1,000 lbs and if equipped with the new twin-turbo 420hp 3.6L DI DOHC-4v VVT V6 or modified version of the LT1 6.2L DI OHV-2v VVT V8 would have given the Escalade a bit of fun; but hopefully, Cadillac will do what everyone wants and that’s to drop a supercharged or twin-turbo 6.2L V8 into the Escalade for a special V-edition.
