For anybody who has watched Britain’s Top Gear (or even America’s Top Gear), chances are you’ve seen an episode or two involving an air vehicle of some sort racing against a fast vehicle. In this case of footage released by Top Gear Korea, it’s a Bell AH-1 Cobra helicopter and a C6 Corvette ZR1. But as the footage quickly reveals, things end rather abruptly with the helicopter’s blades colliding with the earth and bringing the machine down to a violent halt.
For those that believe the crash was pilot error, it’s not the case at all. According to RaceShotsResource — a friend of the pilot — he holds a masters in aeronautics, and the Corba actually suffered a servo failure, which controls the pitch mechanism of the rotor. This caused the helicopter to over-rotate, and slam into the ground. Luckily, nobody was seriously injured.
Watch it all happen just below.

Even a helicopter should know better than to mess with a ZL1.
ZR1
My bab. But yeah that too!:)
I’m wondering just how real that crash was. Top Gear has pulled off some really spectacular stunts in their time. And let’s not get it twisted. The producers of this show have VERY deep pockets. They would absolutely have the budget to destroy a perfectly good Cobra. Notice it wasn’t an Apache, a Black Hawk or a Lynx? Those are multi-million dollar…err…pound…err…euro…err…won…machines! They probably picked up that Vietnam era beauty for peanuts (probably around the cost of the ZR1)…
Buzzkill 😉
