Wow if that is the final front end design, that is hideous. Not even out of the gate and it looks down right ugly.
Right now I am less concerned with the great job that the designers and engineers have done, than I am with the piss poor job the marketing department and their lame-ass advertisement company will do to ruin this.
Is this the same Stanto that commented on the side profile of the CTS saying it was “pretty bad” and he could draw some “ten times better than that”? Well he’s wrong, these are messy, disproportionate, and the sillhouete doesn’t match the spy shots. The rear looks like a Chrysler 300.
this illustration brings to light something I had a concern with……….that bar of chrome that is untouched by the emblem is a problem with me……..the should have at least broken it at the emblem……I am afraid that will look pretty tack on production
I LOVE the current couple. To me, this looks a lot like the current ELR which makes sense considering the overall cost savings if parts and tooling can be shared. My issue is that the entire stable looks the same aside from the new rounded edges intended to please the Chinese market.
I like the sharp edges, and they serve to make Caddy different in a catagory where just about every car looks the same.
I just worry that within a few years Caddy, Buick and Chevy will all look the same as we have with XTS, Impala and LaCrosse.
@Steve That isn’t likely to happen, since — at least as far as Cadillac is concerned — the brand has its own platforms (outside of ELR, Escalade). The next-gen SRX is likely going to become the crossover of the new CTS, while a smaller crossover will slot in below it and essentially be the crossover of the ATS.
As for Buick and Chevy, the two brands will continue to share architectures… but given the great job GM has done differentiating the most recent offerings (Regal/Insignia vs. Malibu, Verano vs. Cruze), I don’t think there’s anything to worry about. However, the Encore and Trax might be cause for concern…
I really hate those disproportioned mouth-grilles… they look horrendous
I’ve seen the other drawing that shows the profile and I think this design looks great, but I don’t like swoopy headlights, or swoopy tail lights for that matter. I’m not saying the CTS will have swoopy tail lights. In my opinion, it’s too hard to make swoopy lights look good…. With or without those awful headlights, the new CTS is definitely going to stand out in a crowd, and it’ll definitely look good doing it. I’m super stoked and can’t wait for it to debut.
Alex, Opel has already stated that Insignia (Regal) will not be developed with PSA because it will ride on a Caddy platform. Add to this Reuss’s dream of a new Grand National / Chinese Park Avenue (Holden Commedore) riding on the ATS platform.The ‘old GM’ was very focused on keeping Caddy unique but the new regime wants to cut costs by letting the best of Caddy trickle down. This, in and of itself, is not a bad thing–VW/Audi, Toyota/Lexus; however, GM had a bad history with this and I already dislike how much the long wheel base Epsilon 2 cars look alike. At a distance, the new Impala looks too much like XTS at the C pillar.
While GM needs to cuts (plans on 13 global platforms), I’m not sure if this should include Caddy. Then again, GM has proven that they can do great things with Buick and Opel while using Chevy parts.
I’m still convinced that GM lacks faith in Caddy. Buick is already a bigger brand (China+Opels in Europe) and it would not take much to take the brand up a notch. Personally, I love the idea od GM owning two very different premium car lines with different being the key word.
Alex, is Trax still comming? Thought that was dead? GM would have been so much better off pegging Opel with Saturn–Encore is such a poor fit!
Steve — the Trax is already available in certain markets… the only market in which it won’t be available, in fact, is the United States.
I realize that these are only sketches but am i the only one seeing GTR styling in these drawings?
