The Corvette ZR1 Even Does Burnouts Better Than The SRT Viper (Video)

The Corvette/Viper rivalry may be rekindled, but so far the snake hasn’t fared well against its Corvette ZR1 enemy. With the range-topping Vette beating the SRT on the track, and on the dyno, the Chevy seems to be winning in everything that matters. Perhaps the V10-powered powerhouse from Auburn Hills will win in a burnout contest, then? Nope.

Edmunds.com managed to lay a 514-foot streak with the ZR1 in their latest Burnout Super Test, nearly one hundred feet more than the Viper — setting a new burnout record for the publication. Still, listening to that leviathan 8.4L V10 motor bounce off the rev limiter in a cloud of tire smoke is intoxicating. And we knew the ‘Vette is good with burnouts… but 514 feet is incredible. New Year’s Goal: break a 514-foot burnout in a Corvette ZR1.

  1. Can,t wait until the C7 ZO6 and ZR1 to arrive. I want to see Porsche’s 911 series of cars, Ferrari V-8s and V-12, along with the Lamborghin V-10 and V-12 all get their asses kick. This should convince many so called Americans and others, that a sports car don’t have to be overprice and imported from Europe or Japan to be a true supercar.
Furthermore, I realised that many people often say that the Corvette and Viper engine technology is so old and outdated, but these two cars especially std Vettes, have better mpg numbers than Euro Japanese cars producing similar power. However, when it comes to modifying engines the Pusrods seems to be the best bet, and not those complicated mutivalve engines. Lets hope the new LT1 can carry-on like the other pushrods and kick some butt. I want some rsponses to who is in favor or oppose to my opinion.

  2. Definitely in favor!…GM has proven (especially with the gen 3&4) OHV engines can be just as potent and efficient as an OHC without a complicated internal setup, while having less weight and still manage a lower center of gravity and better packaging!…the gen 5 will be the pennacle of smallblock performance and efficiency!

  3. I don’t mean to be a fanboy, but I think the ZR1 still sounds better. It doesn’t have that fart can note mixed in like the Viper and it is much louder. It sounds like a lion defending its territory, and sends shivers down my spine!

  4. The Vette has kicked Viper’s proverbial butt in everyway possible! On the track, on the dyno and now burnouts!!!! Long Live the King!

  5. Besides, that Viper still looks like a 1980s design carried over to modern day. There’s something about it that doesn’t jive… even in the photo above.

  7. A lot of naysayers on YouTube. Someone actually complained that our tax dollars were wasted! What?! Burning rubber is awesome no matter what car you are driving and just that much more awesome in a Vette!!

  8. Mopar has always imho been sniffing exhaust vapor from Chevrolets. Doesn’t seem to have changed.
