I Love it!
Just my opinion but the quad tail pipes all together in one line is a bit of an over statement. Love the interior, much improvement over the previous.
I want it. I that giddy, excited, lump in my throat. I don’t think I have ever been so excited for a car, and coincidentally, Im pretty sure the last time I was so amped for a car was the introduction of the C6 ZR1.
The only gripe, I wish they would have made the entire roof black like the ZR1 or 599 GTO
Congrats GM, you deserve every record, accolade, and all the sure to be phenomenal sales. Truly a halo car that can hang with any of the other mainstream super/sports cars
Oh god that rear end is horrible.
Straighten the back-end and revert to signature Corvette round tail lamps and it looks like a winner! Maybe for the 2015 model??
wait is the stingray going to be the starting model??
@Vic Yes, the Stingray is the standard Vette.
I kinda hope that when they refresh the malibu they take the corvette as their inspiration lol
I think this is the first time I really liked a Corvette look, besides the classic stingray.
Love it overall. Don’t like the mirrors. You need a rear facing periscope or camera. Side mirrors are so old school! The rear fascia has way too many separate pieces. Too many joint lines. Nice interior! Would like to see optional five point harness for serious drivers. I agree that the four exhaust tips in the center are a bit much. I like pipes that dump right behind the rear tires in the negative pressure area. Also get both brake calipers on the same side of the disk, Wish I could buy one!
I knew a Don Webb in the WNY Corvette Club years ago – you wouldn’t be that one by any chance?
Sorry Dave! I’m the retired manager of the LSx engine design that debuted in ’97. I was in the SAAC Shelby club and MTOA, the Midwest Tiger Owners Assoc. Today, I drive an ’87 Buick GN. High 11’s@118. Drove many different Vette’s when I got company cars back in the day.
Wow ….impressive credentials, anything Shelby gets my attention along with the other mentions. Company cars like that I could live with too. Today I drive a 41 Packard, a customized PT, my motorcycle,, or one of the other (more normal) cars I have. Even off a cliff they wouldn’t do high 11’s. My old LT1 would just break into the 13’s years ago. What is the Tiger Owners Asso. involved with?
The ’65-’66 Sunbeam Tiger was a car that was a Sunbeam Alpine with a 260 CID Ford engine. In ’67 the had 289’s. and then there was the optional Hi-Po 271 HP version. Since Ken Miles made the prototype and he worked for Shel’, the Tigers were considered part of the Shelby group of products. My wife and I each had one and raced Solo II all over the USA. I like my Buick better!
Stunning!!!! Ed Welburn almost cried. It was deeply emotional for GM and all those brilliant engineers. Made in the USA really means something!!! The design does look like a stingray, just amazing!!!! But pictures don’t do it justice, it’s so obvious!!
Looks like the engineers and the designers did a good job – Zora Arkus-Duntov would be proud.
Looks great in pictures. Big upgrade inside. Cannot wait to see it in person down the line to pass final judgement. Also, they have trumpeted fuel economy a lot, so it really needs to deliver in that area.
Alex,
I can’t tell you how great the anticipation is for my first drive in it !! I was feeling very badly about having to give up our C6 but the new Stingray has made that a lot easier ! I knew Tadge, Kirk, Harlen and the rest of the Corvette Team wouldn’t let us all down !! The C7 rocks !!
That car is gorgeous, the reveal video was great.. That picture up top doesn’t look as good as the polished one in the video but that’s ok. I think it looks great, and the taillights not being round is ok. I like the back of it better now I’ve seen it in with the whole car. The hatch looks nice, very desirable car.. I’m glad to be a chevy fan. I think they will raise the bar with these next-gen corvettes.. They raise the bar and surpass it.
Alex, I love this car and as I said before this Corvette will continue to Kick the Porsche 911, Nissan GTR and even the Ferrari 458 butts. This car is a winner, to hell with the critics. You know what, nothing mankind do will be perfect or without criticism, but GM has done a damn good job here with this car.
Rear-end problem! Where is the problem? The only problem, is the fact that if its not an over-price European or Japanese car, it should not be given any praise. That is where the damn problem lies. But I will be waiting to here those pathetic critics, who praise the Porsche 911 or Audi ATT about their so called beautiful interiors, but would not give this wonderful Corvette its deserving praise, for interior and exterior design.
The renderings seemed crappy, after watching the reveal I have one thing to say I take back every single negative comment about this car. But I still wished it had a 7SPD DCT and Bill Mitchel’s split window but still nice car
WOW GM! it looks so much better than the leaked photos. Also, thanks alot for pretty much making me no longer lustful of the C6 GS and Zo6. guess i’ll be saving up to buy a BASE Stingray. can you imagine that? THIS car is the BASE model!
if the Stingray is the “base” Corvette, then just imagine how beastly and wild the Z06 and ZR1 will be (head exploding)!
I really think the rear looks good ths angled squared off tail lights compliment the rest of the cars design .. its a nice change and let’s the vette move w the times yes the round tailights are signature elements of the past vette but fuck it its supposed to be new and modern and bet ur ass this will be a world class sport coupe that will kick import ass! N most peoples negative thoughts will change when the car is tested driven reviewed and seen in person on ths street
I still think they should have retained the signature round taillights. Nevertheless, I still want a C7 and am glad I didn’t buy a C6 earlier this year, which was already an awesome car. Overall the Corvette is a world class car offering a great price-to-performance ratio as well.
I wonder why there is so much criticism about the rear end, especially if knowing that that is the only part that all the competition will see on American roads!
This Stingray exceeded my expectations what a beautiful yet muscular machine I love everything about the car its so AWESOME this car is simply sick I love the rear end of this thing excellent job Gm i would buy this over any Amg or M nothing says your an american like pulling up in a corvette we have a vehicle to be proud of, FINALLY!!!!
The new Corvette is the most exciting one yet! It will put many European and Asian sports cars to shame and be available for a fraction of their price in many cases. It is beautiful, aggressive looking, yet not totally wild in design. The fabulous interior along with the fantastic exterior design will put this car as a world class sports car, regardless of price! CONGRATULATIONS, General Motors for a job well done!
beautiful new vette…especially side profile! And even though I’m a huge fan of round taillights, these are integrated really well and maybe it doesn’t have to be retro… good job
Beautiful engine, bow, and stern. Prefer the profile of the C6.
Great looking, glad to see upgraded interior….Now…when can I order one ?
It’s a ‘Vette and that means I am indeed partial to them. But the honest truth is that I’m not in love the upgraded looks. They are nice, but I am sure they will grow on me. When the C6 came out without the flip-up lights I was horrified! I cried sacrilege! So in a matter of months when I see a C7 in person I am sure my concerns will be addressed.
Now, let me talk about that unveil. The only word that describes the unveiling is FAIL! What the heck was that? It was so unprofessional and without purpose. We were supposed to be seeing the car yet the cameras were kept on the 3 old fogeys. I couldn’t care less about Reuss and Wederburn…let’s see the car already! Now let’s talk about the car. WHY did they choose red?!? That is simply NOT the colour to use with so much light…and the contrasting of the red panels and the black vents made the car look childish. I believe a grey or pewter…maybe even black…would have been better. I am beginning to feel like this is the last GM unveil I will watch. These guys might be making some pretty good cars, but they certainly don’t know how to market them. On that note, I rest the blame squarely on the shoulders of the public relations people at GM. Peter De Lorenzo (The Auto Extremist) had a lot of negative things to say about how GM was handling the launch and I fear he was correct. GM mucked up the launch BIG time, in my opinion.
Richard you are far more critical than I (and that’s saying a lot) but I agree with you on the reveal vid. talk all you want, but NO ONE wants to look at you, we want to see the CAR! the camera should have been on the C7 and the C7 only. and what was up with the grey car on stage and the ripping off of the cover, only to have the red one come out from the side and block it entirely? why not have the red one under the cover and when the cover was pulled off, it revs up and [and i DO mean REV] then pulls forward onto the turn table.
that said, I’m sure the car will do fine, and from the comments across the net, it will blow minds and open wallets. so in the end; no worries.
Richard, the REVEAL could have been improved… but let’s not confuse the reveal with the launch. Two entirely different things, with the launch being significantly more crucial.
THANK YOU for articulating the disappointing reveal, you are spot on! They chose a song from the 1960’s to appeal to a younger buyer who wasn’t born yet? Duh. Or is it Doh! Plus, having a bunch of old guys talking about it. They should have brought in a Tanner Foust or Jeff Gordon to talk about how great it is, someone under 35 pah-lease. Car is awesome though.
Verry hot super car,i like it. Will Chevy propose it in global market???
Good question… this is all we know right now:

Europe and Asia are laughing their ass off right now, you can bet on it. There is nothing here that threatens them aesthetically or performance wise. It makes a good start at the front then starts to break down as soon as we hit the hood scoop, by the time we get to the greenhouse things are out of control and headed for the Col. Kurtz madness of the rear end. But there’s hope, I hope in the special versions in the pipeline. Call the Cadillac guys and see what they think….
You’re off your F’n meds if you believe what you just said.
you know it true when you get off the meds it’s easy to forget to get back on. Need to talk to Doc about this. But I did enjoy your comment.
Explain your most outrageous claim then, how does it’s performance specs not live up to any sports/super car?
Not too mention, the only performance specs GM has said is a vague 0-60 time. And even then, sub 4-seconds for a $50k car is very impressive. Not to mention a car, that whether you like it our not, has a very handsome, well put together, and of great materials, interior.
I’ve got no problem with GM’s ability to produce a great performing car and I’m sure the C7 will be just that. But there is nothing here that is going to tempt any Europhile. Remember what you thought when you saw a CTS. I do I thought Cadillac was crazy. Turns out it was so crazy good that it got noticed and notice by everyone. That’s what I hoped the C7 would be, but it is not. Sorry.
John Murphy … You sound like a guy who knows nothing about car design. As far as Asia and Europe laughing their rear ends off, well, we shall see who sells more of this sports car class in about a year or so! … I’m glad you weren’t in on the designing of this gorgeous vehicle since you seem to be totally ignorant about good design.
I’ll put my knowledge of car design against anyone here. but that doesn’t mean I’m right. The truth is I really wanted to like this car, and when i first saw it I was pleased but as i kept looking I thought it looked more and more like a Hot Wheels design, now I know there have been some very good designers working for Hot Wheels but I’m talking about an off year like 87 or so. The thing that cinched it for me was I was on Google images and looking at C5 and C6 to kind of review the whole situation when I saw a red car out of the corner of my eye and I said what’s that doing here? What is that, a kit car or something? and yes you guessed it it was the C7 .reveal shot. so that was a look without prejudice, so I’m going with that. Thanks for the comment. PS just to be philosophical for a minute, we maybe past the time when a truly beautiful auto can be designed as a production vehicle. Best thing I saw this year was the one off Alfa Disco Volante. now that was beautiful.
Haha, Hot Wheels! That is funny because I just found a 2009 Hot Wheels car in my office last night that I forgot I had. It is spot on this car! So, the design was pretty much settled 4 years ago. I should have started saving back then!
You smell bull when someone uses “you can bet on it”. Stopped reading right there. Moronic statement.
I have to say I’m getting tired of people ragging on square tail lights and talking like corvettes have only ever had round ones. Remember the C5 with elliptical ones. Or even the 1990 ZR-1 bringing in square, yes, square tail lights, with the regular vette following suit a few years later. So this is not new, people.
The guy who made that comment about it looking like a Hot Wheel. I thought about this. You know something, you’re right!!! But what is a Hot Wheel. It’s a toy every kid lusts after. Every kid? Think about that. That’s what the Corvette Team captured, a car for a new Generation of Kids and their Kids!!!!! YES!!!! Moving forward, this car is for them and beyond. THAT takes guts and Godzilla balls 🙂 Thank you GM and hats off to the ENGINEERS for keeping the fire burning 🙂
Damn talk about being mind blown
Back on topic, do I get a discount on the 2014 Corvette for joining the streaming crowd. I even called my wife in to watch (she’s a keeper). I had hoped they would drop a price figure for the 3rd quarter availability. I was pleased to see the small stingray on the car, having realized it was a new thing after all those years. When I put the machine gray photo I found on my desktop, I was disappointed it did not appear full size and will have to wait for high res photos to show up. the Hot Wheels comment was spot on and I’ll wait patiently for a 1:18 die cast to add to my collection also. Switching from round taillights does no harm to the design as it is an evolution. Side exhausts would have added something for me, but I’m old school so I’ll wait to see the whole package.
Wait, if this is the base model, than what does that leave for the z06 and zr1 besides more hp and torque?
More weight reduction via aluminum, magnesium, carbon fiber, etc.
6-piston calipers all around with larger carbon ceramic rotors and beefier track compound pads.
MRC suspension standard, and by the time the ZR1 comes out there could debut a new generation of MRC.
More aero components and active aero.
Wider rims with stickier Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires.
Lower stance.
Other suspension components like larger sway bars and harder bushings.
I’m guessing different seats to slot above the already great looking sport seats. Dry sump standard.
Wider body and stance.
With the added power for both the Z06 and ZR1 parts will have to be changed to handle the extra power and abuse. That 7spd will be getting beefed up.
There is a lot to be done for each of those models.
I’m curious, his much wider can it get? I know it was mentioned more than once that th C7 is “wider” in the vids with the engineers and designers. So I guess this is a question for Alex; when u was walking around it and taking it in, did it appear as wide as it looks in pictures, is it as wide or wider than the C6 GS/ZR1?
I ask because I kinda hope the Stingray isn’t visually marginalized like the standard C6 was when the wide bodied upper models came out. I know personally myself and my associates actually started disliking the standard Vette because it looked so weak and non threatening compared to the Z06 and ZR1.
All I can say is that it looked just right. It looked wide yet not too wide, athletic yet not too “thin”…
Here are some images that might explain it better than words:

Thanks!
If you compare the specs, it’s only an inch wider than the C6 Coupe, and is therefor 2″ shy of the C6 Z06.
Also, it is slightly shorter in terms of overall height, so that could make it appear wider than it is. Plus, the general shape and curves of the car can manipulate it’s apparent stance.
Gotcha, that helps a lot.
It’s not Sideswipe from Transformers, but it’s got enough shared design elements in there to get a big thumbs up.
I think they went too far with the taillights though, they overthought it. Simple, clean would have been better, I feel like they took a cue from the Mustangs new plastic taillights…poor choice. Jonathan Ive would eviscerate whoever put those taillights on. They should just be like the battery indicator lights on the old Macbook – you barely notice them until they’re on.
Overall it’s an outstanding design. The rear fascia is consistent with the restyling. Kudos for the quad-row exhaust ports- awesome look which puts all that exterior audio in one place! The multiple vents are a positive touch- they are functional and enhance the appearance, however, they should be in the body color (the vent texture is adequate without a paint contrast). The rear spoiler could have been a bit more integral with the body contour to avoid that attached look. The interior goes beyond expectations. Eagerly awaiting to see this in person.
Love the machine…..
