Opel Expects Tiny German-Made Adam To Be Profitable

By consolidating the same engines, basic platform, and assembly line with the larger Corsa B-segment car, Opel believes that the Adam A-segment mini car will be a money-maker for the brand, according to an Automotive News Europe report.

The Adam, which starts at €11,500 (roughly $14,853) with expectations to sell 40,000 to 50,000 units annually, should be a profitable vehicle, despite its size. But with the uncertainty surrounding Opel as a whole, it’s hard to really paint a clear picture as to how well the vehicle will do on the market.

    1. Hard to make money on small cars with small price tags. On the other hand, SUV and trucks, especially the Escalade have huge profit margins.

  2. These are very cool looking cars, I wouldn’t buy something this small, ever. But they nailed it design wise.
Can’t wait for the VXR/OPC version, if they can get even remotely close to the Astra VXR I will be excited for them.

  3. Sales of the Adam start this month. Prognosis is difficult, especially when concerning the future…

The main enemy of the Adam is Opel itself…

Opel makes a big blunder in marketing the Adam, in my humble view, because they try the utmost to destroy the name of the car, writing it in CAPITAL letters, insisting on an English pronounciation in non-English speaking countries (Äddäm, not Adam) instead of allowing the full play with the name Adam which was the first human being according to well-known religious legends. And the given name of the companies founder, which is still in the company’s name: Adam Opel AG.

    They are fools at GM!

  4. As someone who loves small cars, I would buy one of these in a heartbeat. With the right suspension set up, engine choice, and steering dynamics, this could be a MINI Cooper rival. If you’ve never driven a MINI Cooper, you don’t know how true the term “Sometimes driving a slow car fast is more fun.” The Adam has potential. It looks nice, and seems to be packaged right.

  5. Nice looking auto. Many years ago, I had a Mini Cooper… It was a blast.
Personally, I think this is better looking than the new Mini.
Opel has put out some great designed cars, with German engineering. For the life of me, I don’t understand why GM, doesn’t import them. It would darn sure help the Opel brand. If my memory is right, Opel had/has a model similar to the VW TDI. GM should have imported them years ago.

  6. Manoli: “it’s hard to really paint a clear picture as to how well the vehicle will do on the market”. You nailed it… At the end of the day we are all hoping for Opels revival, but… Anyway…
