Along with the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette and Silverado sitting pretty under the lights during the 2013 North American International Auto Show that officially starts Monday morning in Detroit, The Bow Tie brand will have a few visitors from overseas.
For the first time, the Chevrolet Onix, Orlando, Sail, Spin, and Trax – five models developed, built, and sold outside the United States – will be in attendance to greet American consumers next to the domestically-sold Chevys. This marks an interesting occasion, and we wonder if the brand is looking to gauge interest in some of these models, or if the vehicles are simply there to show off Chevy’s global prowess. If that’s the case, why isn’t the new Chevy Trailblazer making an appearance? Or Cruze hatchback, for that matter?

are they just trying to see which one of these 4 oversea vehicles attracts the american customers?
Vic, I think the goal is to show the international audience (as well as investors, analysts, etc. who might be in attendance) the global Chevy lineup in its entirety, thereby demonstrating the strength of the Chevy lineup for different markets. It’s not about those cars here.
because what I was thinking that they would do this because they want to see which one of these models that the Americans are interested and would buy it in a heartbeat that’s what I was thinking or what I think their strategy was for this
Canada is not overseas here in Detroit. Its south of us across the river and many folks cross the bridge (soon to be two) and tunnel every day to go to work.
So at least two of the vehicles (Orlando/Trax) have a buying audience in Detroit.
The Sail is terrible…
Bring me the Colorado….
Given the Colorado is destined to come here, its absence is understandable. The other models will merely represent the global nature of the car business. They’ll be passed by with amuzement by most people rushing to the SIlverado and Corvette.
Well the foreign market Colorado wont be the same as the North American Colorado. Which is why we keep seeing spy photos of the soon to be released NA version
Yeah.. I know i just wish we could see what the American Colorado and Canyon look like
Alex, any sign of new concepts. Also why just these 5 what makes them so special… I can see the Orlando and Trax but Onix and Sail… Hmmm
I really dislike when a vehicle is portrayed “global” when it is available only in select markets. Even if the platform is global, that is not what the customer sees at the dealership. Makes me think people are trying to embellish something. Doesn’t raise my perception of the brand.
In today’s world “global” cannot mean sold on every possible continent. The worlds individual markets are just too diverse in its needs.
If you do sell a vehicle in more than one market it could be considered global.
And the US is not the only market in the world AND we have almost completely different needs/wants than anywhere else. Hence the popularity of large truck and SUV’s that cannot almost exist nowhere else.
Interest should be high for the Orlando – and many heads still scratching as to why
it’s not in the U.S. lineup as we speak.
And wouldn’t it be amazing if the MPV5 showed up in the American booth?!!
I’ve seen a fair amount of Orlandos around (Ontario, Canada). They look pretty good for what they are. Seats 7, both rear benches fold flat, radio flips up with storage in behind which has USB and AUX inputs. I was in an LTZ, I believe, had leather seats which felt fine/good for what is basically a modern van/ MPV.
Only downside is it still uses the 2.4L EcoTec @170ish HP and no power lift gate, which for a person buying this vehicle would be handy.
I do like that it doesnt have sliding doors.
Haven’t driven, or wanted to drive, any other MPV so I can’t say if it is better than something like the Mazda5. But everything on the Orlando seemed fine.
Andrew thx for the feedback…
Anyone know how Trax and Orlando sales are in Canada; maybe Canada is the test bed. I would love to see both these vehicles in the US; even if they were made in Korea or Mexico… UAW workers probably dint like that idea to much…
The Trax isn’t available just yet.
I see Orlando’s sporatically. I mean they are out there, but with the Rondo and it’s optional V6 and the Mazda 5’s interior, it’s got a hill to climb.
GM probably see the Orlando as competing with the Equinox and perhaps the Traverse.
