Without even as much as a press release, GM Holden began construction of an all-new, state-of-the-art body shop in South Australia, next to the Elizabeth Assembly plant. According to GoAuto, the new facility will be built for future, locally made models on global platforms, much like the current Holden Cruze.
It is expected that the first of the new vehicles will appear by mid-2015 in the form of the next-generation Cruze, and will be part of a $1 billion ASD investment by General Motors in Australian manufacturing, supported by a $275 million commitment in federal and state government funding. Rumor has it that a second vehicle, a possible crossover SUV based on the same platform as the next Cruze, will replace the Holden VF Commodore by 2018.

The Commodore won’t be replaced without a massive nation wide protest.
