First 2014 Corvette Stingray To Officially Be Auctioned Off For Charity At Barrett-Jackson

Those who have been paying attention may have noticed previous reports suggesting that the first production 2014 Corvette C7 Stingray will be auctioned off for charity during this weekend’s Barrett-Jackson car auction. To little surprise, these reports are dead-on, as the new American performance car out of Lot No. 3016 will be crossing the auction block January 19.

The proceeds of the auction will benefit the College for Creative Studies, and seeing as it’s the first production C7 that’s to be built, it should send the bidding price to stratospheric heights, up to the moment the gavel slams. Any predictions?

  1. I would think at least $300,000.

    1. That’s what I was thinking too, but who knows, there is so much hype and excitement behind this car

  2. $500,000

  3. VIN number 1 is going to the museum, 2 through 5 are going to top executives. While a Stingray will cross the block, the winning bidder will not be receiving the first sellable Vette.

    1. As per the official press release, VIN #0001 is being auctioned off. It will be the first retail production model. Where did you hear otherwise?

  4. If it is the true #00000001, it will go for a half a mill.

  5. I thought someone said the new vette would not be available until June????

    hmmm

Good thing they introduced it at the Detroit auto show. If they would have waited until June like some thought they should they would have to auction it off with a cover over it. Now that may have been a good teaser also though.

    1. Nobody said the car would be built immediately after the gavel slams.

      1. ??? Do not understand your comment.

0001 is already built and the auto show was the proper venue/ time for intro. Otherwise they would have to put a cover over it at the auction.

And I think all the media/ press news proves Peter was wrong.

        1. It’s easy to understand if you know that the Corvettes at the auto show are hand-built prototype show cars. They are not, and will not be for sale. Bowling Green isn’t even finished with its retooling yet.

          1. I used to work in the plants and was at one time responsible for auto show vehicles. 0001 was built on the line using production/validated tools. Otherwise it would not be salable.

Production 2014 vettes have been being built along with the 2013’s for months. However the winner of 0001 will not be able to drive it until full validation is complete. I used to drive the early production vehicles as part of captured fleet.

As far as the auto show cars they are most likely pilot vehicles that are retrofitted with the latest available parts. I assume by now all the tools are grained by now. You can confirm by checking if there is a production VIN number. Of not then it is a Pre production intent vehicle.

            1. Flatly untrue. 001 has not been built. It hasnt even been spec’ed. Anything that has come through the bowling green line does not have a VIN number

              1. Then I have gotten bad info. I was told 0001 will be at the auction.

                1. I want to add that I do not have access to build dates. I based my comments on what I used to do 10 years ago and the that 0001 is built.

By now vettes should be being built on the line to validate build tools.

  6. I am going to say $350,000. This is a stock Vette afterall. I would think if it was a ZR1 it might go over $500,000 but who knows. I know it won’t be mine! =)
